A MONSTER knock from Tim David has helped the Hobart Hurricanes to their fourth consecutive win in BBL|14 after defeating the Adelaide Strikers by five wickets at NINJA Stadium on Sunday night. The Hurricanes recorded the second-highest run chase of the season to get the job done with eight deliveries to spare.
David overcame a slow start to produce a stunning performance at the crease, slamming home an unbeaten 62 runs off 28 balls to power Hobart to an important win as it continues its climb up the standings.
After opener Mitch Owen (37 from 16) got things rolling, David came to the crease with the Hurricanes’ chase slowing down at 4/101. After managing just four runs from his first 11 balls, the power hitter found his groove, and punished the Strikers bowling attack, with Jamie Overton (0/54) copping the worst of it, as the Hurricanes star notched it
David was particularly damaging in the power surge during the 14th and 15th overs, notching 40 runs from those 12 deliveries and finished the innings with three fours and six sixes as he energised the crowd at his home stadium with three maximums in a row, including one that landed on the roof of the members’ stand.
The Strikers initially looked in the box seat after a strong performance in the first innings on the back of a vintage Chris Lynn showing at the crease. Despite a Riley Meredith bouncer striking his helmet in the first over, Lynn smashed 49 runs from 29 deliveries to set Adelaide’s score at 5/186.
This looked to be enough before Owen and David took over for the ‘Canes, helping Hobart to third spot on the ladder as it chases a maiden BBL title.
“I’m stoked. It was my turn to put my hand up when they needed me,” David said. “I was like two off eight. I was hitting it pretty badly, but thankfully it changed. We knew the pitch was good … just good cricket shots, hit the ball out of the middle of the bat.
“We’re building towards a finals crack this year, we’re only halfway through, but we’re in a good spot so fa. Everyone has contributed so far in our batting order and that’s a great place to be.”
