IT is almost finals time in the QAFLW, so with a fortnight left in the season let us take a look and see what your side needs to do to make the 2022 finals.

As things stand heading into the final fortnight of the season, although there are officially six teams that can make finals, realistically only five of them are still in contention.

Aspley is only eight points behind the top two, but a lot has to go right for the Hornets in order to make the finals, and with a tough pair of matches to end the season (against Bond and UQ). Even one slip up there would end their season.

Moving onto fifth placed Coorparoo, and even though they are half a game ahead of the Hornets and only half a game behind fourth placed Maroochydore, their path to the finals is not straight forward either.

Realistically, they have to win both of their final two games to even make finals, and even if they do percentage may play a factor in where they finish. Unfortunately, that’s not good news for the Kings, who currently have the third worst percentage in the entire competition. Yes, even sixth placed Aspley have a slightly better percentage then they do.

They have Yeronga South Brisbane this weekend, who they should beat, so it may come down to their final game against Southport to really determine their fate.

Speaking of that final round, it might also be the determining factor in how the seasons of both Maroochydore and Bond University finish.

Currently all that separates the third place Bull sharks from the fourth placed Roos is two points and 4.6 per cent. That is it.

With the ladder being so tight, they should make finals with only one win, considering the match ups around them, but will realistically want to win both in order to have that extra security.

The enthralling thing about that is that they play each other in the final round, so it all may come down to that match to see whether they make finals, and if they do, where they finish in that top four.

Things are a little bit easier for top two Southport and University of Queensland, but they cannot rest on their laurels just yet. They are both only half a game ahead of Bond, so to guarantee a top two finish they need to win both of their final two games.

They play Coorparoo and Aspley respectively in the final round, so they should both win those games. However, this weekend they play each other, so whoever wins that clash will likely finish top come a fortnight’s time, with the loser sweating on the result of the Bond v Maroochy game to see where they finish.
