2022 AFL State Combine invitees announced

THE AFL announced yesterday that 66 players have been invited to participate in state draft combines in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia. It comes after a total of 68 prospects were included in the National Combine list, set to take place through October 7-9.

This year, Victoria will also host state combine invitees from NSW-ACT, Tasmania, Northern Territory, Queensland (October 9), before the South Australian and West Australian editions get underway on October 15 and 16 respectively.

Among the players included, there are a bunch of mature-agers hoping to make the top grade having impressed across various state leagues, and club-tied talent attracting interest from other sides. Nominations from at least two AFL clubs are required to earn a combine invite.

There will be interest in the father-son candidates set to attend the annual fitness testing event, including Cooper Harvey (North Melbourne), Jerome Lawrence (Hawthorn), Osca Riccardi (Geelong), and Jayden Davey (Essendon). The latter’s twin brother, Alwyn, earned a National Combine nod.

Next Generation Academy (NGA) products are also set to feature. Finn Emile-Brennan (Melbourne), Yuyu Ashwin (Collingwood), Ted Clohesy (Geelong), Jasper Scaife, and Josh Draper (both Fremantle) all did enough to be recognised, along with a bunch of Northern Academy talent.

In terms of those unlucky to miss out on a spot on the national list, South Australian midfielder Kobe Ryan is right up there, as is West Australian ruck Jackson Broadbent. Gippsland Power’s Jonti Schuback is another in that category, but has plenty of time to prove himself.

Though the major National Championship legs have been played out, finals are still to come around the nation, so the opportunity to be added to national and state combine lists still presents for those who missed the initial cut.
