Eleven fresh faces enter RMC Medal race

A CLOSE run weekend of Coates Talent League football has seen 11 fresh faces enter this year’s Rookie Me Central Medal count. Among them, four earned full votes in Round 10, while the top of the tree takes a familiar look with two Vic Metro stars remaining clear in equal-first place.

In what was his last game for Calder, Ryan Eyre played his hand in a fitting sendoff with 26 disposals and eight marks to be named best afield. He, teammate Noah Scott (23 disposals, eight inside 50s) and Oakleigh’s Ollie Badr (29 disposals) all polled their first votes for the year.

It was a similar story in Tasmania’s win over Sandringham, where a trio of Devils all got on the board for 2024. Skipper Harry Elmer provided plenty of drive and energy to be awarded the three votes, followed by the strong marking Toby Callow and powerful midfielder Rylee McHenry.

Elsewhere, Vic Country squad member Connor Evans was outstanding for Bendigo, posting seven marks and 10 rebound 50s in the losing side. GWV Rebels key forward Jonty Faull booted five goals in his first game of the season as another maiden entrant to this year’s count.

Dandenong Stingrays co-captain Cooper Hynes was the only moved in the top 10 this week. He nabbed two votes to move level with Zak Johnson on 11 in equal-third, behind frontrunners Josh Smillie and Jagga Smith (13 votes). Smith had 40 disposals in Round 10 but did not poll.
