Running half-backs are often seen as dime-a-dozen, but Mitchell Kirkwood-Scott has done enough to break through as a draft prospect. The Haileybury College captain was part of last year's APS title and after making just one Coates Talent League appearance last year, became a premiership player in 2024.

Regarded as one of the best kicks in Sandringham Dragons' side, Kirkwood-Scott is a creative force in the high defender role. He goes by foot nearly 80 per cent of the time and often compounds his line-breaking speed by thumping the ball long. He's the type of player who can turn defence into attack with such forays.

Kirkwood-Scott is quite well rounded when it comes to his role. He sets up well behind the ball and is an apt interceptor, even holding his own one-on-one to support the offensive drive he offers. In terms of improvements, he could perhaps show a little more composure when deciding whether to go quickly or not. Enhancing his pressure/tackling game will also help him stand out as a small defender.
