IN one of the toughest weeks of the year, the Rookie Me Central South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Women’s Team of the Week was difficult to cut down to just 24 players. In the end, Round 9 winners North Adelaide<\/a> (six) and Central District<\/a>, (five) players apiece leading the way, with the other winners, Glenelg<\/a> and Woodville-West Torrens Women’s<\/a> having the three. Whilst Norwood<\/a> only managed the one this week, the other three losing sides South Adelaide<\/a>, Sturt<\/a> and West Adelaide<\/a> had two apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEADERS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Leading out the team this week for a second week this year is Central District skipper Shelby Smith<\/a> after another huge game, picking up 37 disposals, five marks, nine tackles, eight clearances, four inside 50s, five rebound 50s and a goal. Her vice-captain for Round 9 is versatile Eagles midfielder Jessica Sedunary<\/a>, recording 25 disposals, two marks – one contested – four clearances and seven inside 50s in her side’s victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DEFENDERS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is no surprise to see some familiar faces in the back six, headlined by Roosters co-captain Kristi Harvey<\/a> yet again following a consistent 12-disposal, seven-mark and seven-rebound performance throughout North Adelaide’s big win over South Adelaide. Speaking of the Panthers, Jaslynne Smith<\/a> is there again, named in a back pocket after 18 disposals, four marks, five tackles and five rebound 50s in that match. At centre half-back is Bulldogs youngster Charlotte Riggs who took five marks – two contested – to go with her 16 disposals and three rebound 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A couple of West Adelaide players are in the back six, with Beatrice Devlyn<\/a> and Emma Kilpatrick<\/a> making the starting squad. Devlyn had the 18 touches, two marks, four tackles and six rebound 50s, whilst Kilpatrick recorded 17 disposals, four tackles and 10 rebound 50s. Rounding out the back six is Sturt’s Alisha Gepp<\/a> with the midfielder spending plenty of time mopping up in defence on her way to 15 disposals, three marks, five tackles, four clearances and five rebound 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MIDFIELDERS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With Smith leading the on-ball group, her teammate and ruck Isabelle Starmer<\/a> is back in again, recording the second most disposals of the round behind Smith. Starmer had 27 disposals, five marks nine tackles, eight clearances, four inside 50s and four rebound 50s in the win over West Adelaide. Also on-ball are a couple of tackling machines in Sturt’s Kate Harris<\/a> and Glenelg’s Jessica Bates<\/a>. Harris laid a round-high 17 tackles to go with 21 disposals, three marks, five clearances, two inside 50s and two rebound 50s. Bates managed 23 disposals, five marks, 13 tackles, five clearances, three inside 50s, two rebound 50s and a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the wings is another couple of Roosters in speedster Katelyn Pope<\/a> and natural ball-winner Jessica Edwards<\/a>. Pope had the 24 disposals, six marks, four tackles, three inside 50s and two rebound 50s, whilst Edwards slotted two goals from 22 disposals, six marks, seven tackles, three inside 50s and three rebound 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FORWARDS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In attack, Glenelg and Eagles have a couple of representatives each. Alongside vice-captain Sedunary, the Eagles also have full-forward Klaudia O’Neill<\/a> who was the only player to kick three goals on the weekend in the win over Norwood. Bays duo Samantha Franson<\/a> (21 disposals, eight marks, eight tackles, five inside 50s and two goals) and Chelsea Packer<\/a> (16 disposals, four marks – one contested – five tackles, seven inside 50s and two goals) also feature in the front six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central District’s Caitlen Teague<\/a> also made it into this week’s team after an impressive 19 disposals, three marks, nine tackles, three clearances and four inside 50s in the Bulldogs win. Rounding out the front six is North Adelaide star Jade De Melo<\/a> who slotted two goals from 13 disposals, two marks, two tackles, two clearances and two inside 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INTERCHANGE:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

North Adelaide completed its half a dozen players on the bench, with ruck Megan Ryan<\/a> and utility Lauren Gauci<\/a> making it in. Ryan recorded 19 disposals, eight tackles, 19 hitouts, nine clearances, seven inside 50s and two rebound 50s in a huge effort for the Roosters, whilst Gauci finished with 15 disposals, two marks, six tackles, two clearances, seven inside 50s and a goal. Norwood’s sole representative, captain Alison Ferrall<\/a> had 20 disposals, six marks – one contested – three tackles, two inside 50s, three rebound 50s and a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central District’s Laitiah Huynh<\/a> made the side again after 22 disposals, two marks, two tackles, three clearances and four inside 50s. Rounding out the side are South Adelaide’s Nicole Campbell<\/a> and Eagles’ Brianna Hyde<\/a>. Campbell is no stranger to the Team of the Week, having another big outing of 19 disposals, seven tackles, four clearances and four inside 50s, whilst Hyde makes her first SANFLW Team of the Week after 19 disposals, tow marks – one contested, four tackles, three clearances, three inside 50s and three rebound 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EMERGENCIES\/OTHERS TO CONSIDER:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The three emergencies this week are Norwood midfielder Tesharna Maher<\/a>, Glenelg utility Madisyn Freeman<\/a> and Eagles ruck-forward Amie Blanden<\/a>. Maher had 18 disposals, two marks, five tackles, four clearances and five inside 50s, Freeman finished with 20 disposals, two tackles, five clearances and two inside 50s, and Blanden recorded 16 disposals, three marks, five tackles, eight hitouts, six clearances and six inside 50s. The latter did well against Norwood’s Leah Cutting<\/a> who was funnily enough also in consideration for a spot, as was Sturt ruck Alex Pearce<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trio of defenders headlined by West Adelaide’s Madelyn Zacher<\/a> were also in consideration, with Sturt’s Alex Ballard<\/a> and Norwood’s Ashlee Gould<\/a> on the short list. West Adelaide midfield duo of Jess Macolino<\/a> and Louella McCarthy<\/a>, Glenelg duo Ellie Kellock<\/a> and Violet Patterson<\/a> and North Adelaide’s Erica Greet<\/a> were also among the names. Sturt’s Georgia Bevan<\/a>, South Adelaide’s Shae Archbold<\/a>, and Central District duo Lauren Breguet<\/a> and Shannon Murphy<\/a> were also among the considerations, as was Eagles’ Chantelle Mitchell<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
