Meanwhile for Southport, an undefeated record was there to protect.

Southport did most of the attacking in the first term, but could not convert that advantage into goals. They did get the first two goals of the game through Giselle Davies and Brittany Perry respectively, but also kicked five behinds for the term. Aspley got the next two goals of the quarter through Bree McKenzie and Rachel Vetter to bring the margin back to a mere five points at the first change.

The second term, however, was nowhere near as close.

It was all Southport as the Sharks dominated from the opening bounce. They piled on five goals to none for the term, and controlled the possession and territory game. Aspley had a few inside 50s late on, but just could not make them count.

At the major break, the margin had ballooned out to 35 points, and Southport was looking good to maintain its undefeated run.

The third quarter was a much more even affair again as compared to the second.

It was a free flowing affair, with much end to end footy and an even amount of scoring chances for both sides.

Aspley actually won the quarter three goals to two, and they brought the margin back slightly to 29 points at the final change.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, that momentum amassed to nothing in the last term as the Sharks ran away with the match. Proving much too dominant, the Sharks piled on five goals to a single behind for the entire quarter, and they controlled the play and territory battles.

The Sharks would ultimately win the match by 60 points.

For the Sharks, they had multiple players who kicked bags of goals. Davies finished with four goals, while Perry, Brianna McFarlane and Ashanti Bush all finished with three.

Meanwhile for the Hornets, Vetter was a star up forward, kicking a bag of her own.

In other results:

Yeronga South Brisbane pushed Bond University but ultimately could not get over the line. The scores were tied at the final change, but a two goal to none last term from the Bull Sharks meant they got the win.

Annie Muir was the only multiple goal kicker on the ground with two, while Lily Tarlinton, Abbey Bevan and Paris Lightfoot all starred in the win.

Meanwhile for the Devils Georgia Hewett, Grace Moodie and Peppa Poultney all played well in another tough loss for the Devils.

University of Queensland’s undefeated run has come to an end at the hands of Coorparoo. Two scoreless quarters to book end the Red Lions’ game meant they were never really in the game as Coorparoo recorded a 31-point win.

For the Kings, Jenae Govan, Tori Groves-Little and Chelsea Winn all booted two majors, while Laura Blue, Renee Teys and Ariana Reilly all starred in the upset.

Meanwhile for UQ, the usual suspects in Megan Hunt, Jacqui Russell and Kaitlyn Day were all among the best in the disappointing loss.

Maroochydore had another big win, this time over Wilston Grange. The Gorillas went scoreless for three quarters as the Roos piled on the score.

For the Roos, Rianna Maloney was on fire in front of goal, booting five majors, while Chloe Gregory nailed two of her own. Amber Swan and Mikayla Martin both played well.

Meanwhile for the Gorillas, Chloe Litherland had another great game, as well as Kitty Adams and Kate Horsham.

Mentions

Giselle Davies

Brittany Perry

Bree McKenzie

Brianna McFarlane

Ashanti Bush

Lily Tarlinton

Abbey Bevan

Georgia Hewett

Peppa Poultney

Tori Groves-Little

Megan Hunt

Chloe Gregory

IN this week’s QAFLW match of the round, Southport maintained its undefeated start to the season, despite being pushed at times by Aspley.
