LAST week we announced a Surprise Packet player from each of the four states that had completed their 2022 AFLW Under 18 Championships campaigns. The final match between the Allies and Queensland was completed on the weekend, so the final two Surprise Packets have been named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surprise packet criteria, each player mentioned will be draft-eligible, and outside both the AFLW Academy and our March Power Rankings. Though there are plenty who could fit the bill, we have chosen one per team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courtney Hingston<\/a> (Tasmania Devils\/Tasmania\/Allies)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Tasmanian Devils defender really had a memorable carnival, particularly across the first two games. Coming in off the back of a solid NAB League Girls season, Hingston showed her traits at Blacktown International Sportspark where she picked up 15 disposals, three marks, laid six tackles and had three inside 50s and three rebound 50s against NSW\/ACT. Backing up that performance with an 11-disposal, three-mark, six-rebound 50 game against Western Australia, Hingston was a large reason the Allies stayed in contention for the match. Though she had a quieter nine-disposal, two-mark, two-rebound 50 game against Queensland, she proved she did not look out of place against the country’s top players across the carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jasmyn Smith<\/a> (Bond University\/Gold Coast Suns Academy\/Queensland)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Gold Coast Suns Academy top-ager racked up more clearances than any other player at the championships and was one of the massive surprise packets throughout. She had shown talent in the lead-up games against Brisbane Lions Academy and Oakleigh Chargers, but Smith took her game to another level across the three carnival matches. The talented midfielder averaged 18 disposals, 2.3 marks, 6.3 tackles, 6.0 clearances and 3.0 inside 50s to be one of the top performers. She can be pleased with her three games and will now return to the QAFL Women’s with Bond University where she can take the experience from the championships and impact at senior level again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
