THIS week\u2019s VFLW match of the round produced only the second draw of the season, this time between Williamstown and Carlton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In windy and congested conditions, it was a contest plagued by inaccuracy as goals proved very hard to come by. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first term was even, with much of the action taking place between the 50-metre arcs. The windy conditions made scoring very difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both teams had plenty of opportunities to put score on the board, but Carlton made more of its chances than Williamstown could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In saying that, the Blues could only put three behinds on the board for the quarter, but anything was greater than the Seagulls’ effort of no score, meaning at the first change the margin was three points in favour of the visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The blustery conditions continued to make life difficult for both sides in the second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carlton had the early possession momentum but could not quite convert, before the Seagulls took over the majority of the ball but also found it hard to convert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It took until the 14th minute for either side to put a goal on the board, and it was the Seagulls who did so through Aimee Whelan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Whelan\u2019s goal saw the Seagulls take the lead for the first time in the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlton kept peppering the goals, but the Blues’ shots for goal were just not making the distance and at half time, the margin was four points in favour of the home team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The third quarter was a very low scoring affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlton finally made the most of its opportunities early in the term, with Eliza Wood<\/a> converting to give her side the lead back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That would ultimately be the only goal of the quarter as the Seagulls would then notch consecutive behinds and leave things at a one-point margin heading into the last term. Everything was still to play for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The scoreboard and stats told a very similar story, with not much separating the two sides in the stats either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was another slog in the final term, with over 12 minutes gone on the scoreboard before Mia Cowan<\/a> put through her first to give the Blues a seven point lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was not long before Ellie Cleland<\/a> booted a major of her own for the Seagulls to bring the margin back to one. The Seagulls then kicked a behind to level things up, and the rest of the quarter was very congested so neither side really got an opportunity to break the deadlock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the end, the clock beat them all and the two sides could not be split.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Seagulls, Whelan played well, as did Jasmine Kawa<\/a> and Gabrielle Biedenweg-Webster<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for Carlton the likes of Steph Lawrence<\/a>, Jennifer Lew<\/a> and Lily Goss<\/a> were all impressive at various points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n IN OTHER RESULTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Casey slumped to its second loss in a row, this time beaten by Collingwood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Dees went goalless in the first half, and it ultimately cost them as the Pies registered a 10-point win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For the victors, Matilda Zander<\/a> nabbed 22 touches while Monique DeMatteo<\/a> booted two majors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Dees, Samantha Johnson<\/a> finished on 20 touches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n North Melbourne\u2019s push towards finals has hit a road bump, going down to Geelong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A goalless first quarter set the tone for the day for the Kangaroos, as they struggled to get the score on the board as Geelong ran away with the match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Cats, recent NAB League graduate Keeley Hardingham<\/a> booted two majors, while Laura Gardiner<\/a> was once again a ball magnet, finishing with 38 touches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Roos, skipper Molly Eastman<\/a> had a captain\u2019s game, finishing with 30 touches of her own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Western Bulldogs could not end their winless run, this time going down to the Southern Saints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In a low scoring affair down at Trevor Barker Oval, the Saints kicked away in the middle two quarters to nab a three-goal win. The Bulldogs also kicked their highest score of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Saints, Gabriella De Angelis<\/a> and Tayla Kearns<\/a> both booted two majors, while Hannah Stuart<\/a> finished with 26 touches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Bulldogs, Britney Gutknecht<\/a> finished with 27 touches in what was a particularly frustrating loss for her side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Essendon kept its undefeated run very much alive against Darebin, while at the same putting the Falcons’ finals chances under more pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Falcons just struggled to score as the Bombers ultimately ran away with a 57-point victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Bombers, Mia-Rae Clifford<\/a>, Grace Dicker<\/a> and Joanne Doonan<\/a> all booted two majors each, while usual suspect Georgia Nanscawen<\/a> racked up 34 touches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Falcons, usual suspect of their own Nicole Callinan<\/a> racked up 22 touches of her own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Hawthorn have recorded one of their biggest wins of the year, belting Port Melbourne by 88 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Borough were never in the match as the Hawks ran away with the match. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Hawks, Tamara Luke<\/a> finished with two majors and 19 touches, while Kristy Stratton<\/a> and Jessie Williams<\/a> both booted four majors each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Borough, Kaitlyn O’Keefe<\/a> finished with 17 touches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
