WHILE other women’s state league seasons may be finishing up around the nation, the QAFLW still has a long way to go and a lot of exciting potential eventualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The game of the round this week is between two of the top teams of the competitions. One has had a few stumbles recently, but will look to knock off the currently indestructable ladder leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, it is the battle of the Sharks as Bond University host the currently undefeated Southport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week Bond came undone in the Grand Final rematch against University of Queensland (UQ), while Southport\u2019s match could not go ahead due to the heavy rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides this week will be hoping that \u2018The Canal\u2019 does not live up to its nickname, after the heavy rain certainly made conditions very tricky last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week Bond won most of the stats, but did not win the most important one \u2013 the scoreboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hopefuls had 87 more touches, three more inside 50s, four more marks and 16 more tackles then UQ. They also had a better disposal efficiency than UQ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite this, on an individual level the likes of Courtney Sexton<\/strong>, Annie Muir<\/a> and Jasmyn Smith<\/a> all matched it with UQ\u2019s best. It is these players and the likes of Mikayla Pauga<\/a> that the Sharks will need to make sure don\u2019t have too much of an influence if they want to keep their undefeated run intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, Southport has a lot of potential goal scorer options that the Bull Sharks\u2019 defenders will have to contend with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brittany Perry<\/a> has kicked multiples in a game on more than one occasion this season, while Giselle Davies<\/a>, Brianna McFarlane<\/a> and Ashanti Bush<\/a> are just some of the other dangerous forwards Bond will have to contend with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One other element that may play a factor is that because of the weather and the competition bye, Southport\u2019s last game was three weeks ago. How much will the extra time off affect the Sharks who are in their first season at this level?<\/p>\n\n\n\n In other matches this weekend, University of Queensland will be looking to build off its good win last week against Bond against Maroochydore this week.
