WHILE the nation’s brightest Under-18 prospects underwent a series of state trials this weekend, there were still plenty of youngsters climbing the state league grades. Most significantly, top 10 talent Jedd Busslinger<\/a> missed Western Australia’s hitout against Claremont to continue his run in the WAFL League on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rangy key defender had five disposals and a single mark in East Perth’s 11-point loss to South Fremantle, and was joined by Reuben Ginbey<\/strong> in the senior side. Having turned out for Wesley College in the PSA competition, Gibney slotted in for his third top flight appearance and returned nine touches, as well as five tackles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite fewer fixtures, the VFL still saw a couple of debutants come to the fore. Greater Western Sydney over-ager Brad Rauter<\/a> got an opportunity with the Giants, contributing eight disposals to his side’s 40-point win over North Melbourne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oakleigh Chargers top-ager Riley Voulanas<\/a> was the round’s other debutant, booting a goal from his three touches and laying five tackles as Collingwood lost to Casey Demons. Elsewhere, Gippsland Power product Max Walton<\/a> made his third-straight appearance for Box Hill, notching a career-high 19 touches in a winning effort against Box Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another NAB Leaguer to gain more VFL experience was Bendigo Pioneers forward Harvey Gallagher<\/a>, who also snared a goal as Carlton went down to Essendon. For the Bombers, new recruit Massimo D’Ambrosio<\/a> racked up 33 disposals on debut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With little to speak of over in South Australia as championship preparation ramps up, Koby Cockshell<\/strong> again backed up in South Adelaide’s reserves. The strongly-built tall laid nine tackles and had the ball eight times himself as the Panthers went down to the tune of 62 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
