THERE may have only been one match in the QAFLW on the weekend, but it was sure as hell an entertaining one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the return leg of the \u2018Shark Stoush\u2019, Bond Uni were able to avenge the previous weekend\u2019s result by defeating Southport by five points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wet conditions greeted both sides early, but the Bull sharks made it look easy in the opening passages of play as they worked the ball down and got the first goal on the board via Isabella Iverach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the wet conditions, it was a very free flowing contest in the first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Southport certainly had their chances to get some goals on the board but could not convert, and just could not get the deep entries needed to put much score on the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After Iverach kicked her second major of the term, the margin was 10 points in Bond\u2019s favour at the first break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bond did not take too long to put more scoreboard pressure on in the second term, when Jess<\/strong> Maher<\/strong> booted the Bull sharks\u2019 third of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite conceding that opening goal, it was Southport who dominated the territory game in the opening half of the first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However despite their dominance, they just could not capitalise on their opportunities. They got very few inside 50s deep enough to even have an attempt at goal, which is why they went scoreless for the quarter and Bond Uni\u2019s lead stood at 17 at the main break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The really started to set in in the second half, so the conditions just got that much harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zali Cheffers <\/strong>had the chance to finally get a major on the board for the home side in the opening minutes of the third quarter but her kick was touched on the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, it wasn\u2019t too much longer that Southport had to wait for their first major, when Meg McGuiness<\/strong> soccered one off the deck only two minutes later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Much of the quarter was played between the 50m arcs, so scoring opportunities were not aplenty for either side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Georgia Eller<\/strong> kicked Southport\u2019s second for the term in the final couple of minutes of the term and suddenly the margin was back down to five points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Momentum had certainly shifted in the Sharks\u2019 favour, and as the teams turned for home it was not clear who was going to ultimately win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Unlike the weather, the scoring really dried up in the final term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Much of the play was again between the 50m arcs, so neither side really got a decent shot at goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Both sides only managed a behind each in the final term, so in the end it was the Bull sharks who got the chocolates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
