YESTERDAY saw the much talked about AFL Women’s Priority Signing Period (PSP) come to a conclusion, with a total of eight players finding new homes during the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PSP was designed to give the four newest AFLW clubs \u2013 Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney \u2013 a chance to sign some more experience players from more established teams, with anyone who has played at least three seasons able to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All four teams signed at least one player during the window, with some managing more coups than others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Essendon signed only one player, with former Roo Brooke Brown<\/a> jetting across to the Hangar. The key defender has only played 24 games, but will be a crucial cog in the Bombers’ defence, and improve what was largely seen as their biggest area of weakness in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hawthorn was potentially the biggest winner out of the period, with a pair of premiership Lions now set to don the brown and gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The 2022 W Medallist Emily Bates<\/a> and gun forward Greta Bodey<\/a> have both traded Springfield for Waverley, and promise to be influential additions to the Hawks’ side next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Port Adelaide, another big winner, picked up three players. One was via a special concession only Port got to enjoy, making their haul the largest of the lot. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Under a rule that saw Port allowed to sign one underage talent to their list for next season, the Power chose to take Glenelg ruck Matilda Scholz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Port also picked up two players from rival clubs, with former Crow Ashleigh Woodland<\/a> and former Docker Janelle Cuthbertson<\/a> both choosing to head to Alberton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sydney also picked up two players, with the Swans targeting younger, but just as exciting stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Former number two draft pick and versatile Blue Lucy McEvoy<\/a>, as well as former Collingwood midfielder\/forward Chloe Molloy<\/a> have both sensationally left their Victorian clubs and will head to the Harbour City for next season and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Next up is the Sign and Trade Period, which commences tomorrow and finishes at 5pm on March 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
