THIS season is proving to be a very unpredictable one in the VFL Women\u2019s competition, and the results over the weekend just gone only continued that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of those was the final match of the weekend, which saw Collingwood comfortably down Box Hill by 24 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It did not even take Collingwood 40 seconds to get on the scoreboard when Jessica Bates<\/a> slotted one through to get their scoring off and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Scoring was hard to come by for much of the quarter though as the ball lived between the 50s for much of the term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Collingwood\u2019s second goal of the term finally came about 12 minutes after its first, this time off the boot of Eleri Morris<\/a>, and the Magpies had an 11 point buffer which they ended up taking into quarter time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It did not go all Collingwood\u2019s way in the first term, with fearless captain Caitlin Bunker<\/a> going down with concussion early in the term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second quarter was an even lower scoring affair than the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With both defences holding strong and much of the play again between the 50m arcs, goals were even harder to come by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nyakoat Dojiok<\/a>\u2019s goal inside the opening five minutes was the only one for the term, and as such the Magpies lead was out to three goals at the main break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The third quarter was where Box Hill\u2019s resurgence started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite dominating forward territory and possession early, it took a while but finally almost seven minutes into the quarter it got its first goal of the game off the boot of Jordan Mifsud<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However its second goal would not come for another almost 10 minutes, when Emerson Woods<\/a> <\/strong>slotted one through with about four minutes to go in the quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crucially for the Hawks though, they had managed to keep Collingwood goalless for the entire third quarter, and as such were only a goal behind them heading into the last term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Monique DeMatteo<\/a> was quick to ensure the Hawks were unable to keep that momentum going in the last term when she slotted through a goal from about 40m out to restore Collingwood\u2019s lead to two goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amanda Tessari<\/a> countered about two minutes later with a goal of her own for the Hawks, but that would be the end of the Hawks resistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Two further Collingwood goals from some unlikely suspects in Rene Caris<\/a> <\/strong>and <\/strong>Riley Christgoergl<\/a> in quick succession further cemented Collingwood\u2019s lead, before one last goal in the dying seconds from Alana Porter<\/a> was the icing on the cake on an impressive performance from the Magpies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bates (27 disposals) and Matilda Zander<\/a> (20 disposals) topped the ball winners tally for Collingwood, while Matilda Van Berkel<\/a> (13 touches) did so for Box Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Momentum switched many times across the match, but ultimately the Seagulls finally put their foot down in the last quarter to take the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eliza Straford<\/a>, Sara Cameron<\/a> and Alyssa Mifsud<\/a> all kicked two goals each for their respective sides, while some of the main ball winners on the ground included Jasmine Kawa<\/a> (24 touches), Nicole Julian<\/a> (19 touches) and Emma Mackay<\/a> (16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the Bulldogs kicking the sole goal of the final term to the Borough\u2019s two behinds, it was ultimately enough for the Borough as they held on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stephanie Williams<\/a> and Stella Reid<\/a> were both the stars in front of goal for the Borough with two goals apiece, while Imahra Cameron<\/strong> kicked two of her own for the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The main ball winners were mainly Bulldogs, with Lauren Caruso<\/a> the lone Borough inside the top five. The other members of the top five included the likes of Dominique Carbone<\/a> and Sarah Skinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Things were tight in the first term but certainly not after that as Carlton put its foot down and ran away with it on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eliza Wood<\/a>, Brooke Vickers<\/a> and Mia Cowan<\/a> all kicked two goals for Carlton, while most of the main ball winners were also Blues. Audrey Rhodes<\/a> was the lone Roo at the top of the disposals tally with 19 touches to her name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n In trying conditions, it was a low scoring affair but the Cats ultimately managed to pile on some scoring late to take the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Charlotte Simpson<\/a> was a ball magnet for the Cats, finishing with 31 touches, while Jemima Wrigley<\/a> topped the disposals tally for the Saints with 20 of her own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Essendon dominated early, but Casey came right back at it. However the Bombers could have put the Dees away much more easily if they had kicked straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paige Scott<\/a> was the sole multiple goalkicker on the ground with three to her name, while Megan Fitzsimon<\/a> topped the disposal tally for the game with 23 touches to her name.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIn other results:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
