The final match of the run will be the highlight of the weekend, while the undefeated Southport hosts Maroochydore at Fankhauser Reserve, and reigning premiers University of Queensland search for back-to-back wins against Yeronga South Brisbane at Leyshon Park.

ASPLEY vs. BOND UNIVERSITY
Saturday, May 13 @ Aspley Oval, 4:45pm

Third placed Aspley has won two games and drawn one from four outings, with only a competitive defeat at the hands of Southport being the outlier. Splitting the points with fourth placed Coorparoo in the season opening showed the Hornets will be thereabouts this season and they sit just nine per cent clear of the Kings in third spot. A win here would see Aspley leapfrog Bond University into second.

The Bull Sharks have a far superior percentage of 265.43, but that took a hit during their home loss to Southport in Round 4. They hit the road again to head up to Aspley, and can create a bit of breathing space with Southport up the top, though Coorparoo will likely stay two points behind in third. So far the Bull Sharks have ticked each box other than against the premiership favourites and will be keen to post an important win against the Hornets in Round 5.

Mikayla Pauga has been an important player for the Bull Sharks this season, averaging 24 touches playing through the midfield. With a host of youngsters in the Suns Academy stepping up, Bond University has plenty of talent that at full strength, can worry any side.

Ella Calleja is primed for a big year as an overager, and picked up 26 disposals in her sole match so far, while Courtney Sexton and Georgia Johnson are a couple of players who have been among the more consistent ball-winners.

Mikayla Martin is coming off a ridiculous performance against her former side Maroochydore, racking up 38 touches through the midfield. Able to also hit the scoreboard, the mature-age Hornet is averaging 29 touches, 4.5 marks, 4.0 clearances and 1.3 goals per game.

She is well supported by the likes of Lucia Liessi and Courtney Daniec who have also been strong this season, while Louise Tyson is in a good run of form.

Bond University will be favourites in the clash, but Aspley has the squad to get the job done, especially at home. Either way, the match is anticipated to be a cracker and show why both teams are inside the top four.

YERONGA SOUTH BRISBANE vs. UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND
Saturday, May 13 @ Leyshon Park, 2pm

Winless Yeronga South Brisbane hosts University of Queensland who is fresh off its first win of the season last week. In what is ultimately a bottom two clash, the winner of the battle avoids bottom spot at the end of Round 5, while also likely leapfrogging Wilston Grange in the process.

Farrandai Hopkins and Madison Goodwin are a couple of players to keep an eye from the Devils who have started the year strongly, while Ava Seton is on track for a huge year at state league level, averaging a whopping 28.5 disposals for the reigning premiers.

SOUTHPORT vs. MAROOCHYDORE
Saturday, May 13 @ Fankhauser Reserve, 4pm

Ladder leaders Southport look set for another commanding performance against a Maroochydore side that has been good in the tight struggles but has also conceded some big scores, particularly against Bond University in Round 1.

Steph O’Brien and Carly Remmos are averaging a combined 60 disposals for the Sharks this season, while Sara-Jane O’Grady and Imagen David are among the more consistent performers for the Roos in what has been a 2-2 start to the season.

WILSTON GRANGE vs. COORPAROO
Saturday, May 13 @ Hickey Park, 4:45pm

Sixth placed Wilston Grange will hope the homeground advantage can give the Gorillas a boost against a fourth placed Coorparoo side at Hickey Park. Having broken their winless drought from last season in Round 1 this season against the Devils, the Gorillas have since dropped the past three.

Coorparoo has won two and drawn one from four games and can move to third with a victory here. Lucy Schneider and Jessica Watts have been the Kings’ most prominent ball-winners this season, while Zimra Hussain and Mackenzie Findlay are consistent as always for the Gorillas.

Mentions

Mikayla Pauga

Ella Calleja

Mikayla Martin

Lucia Liessi

Courtney Daniec

Madison Goodwin

Ava Seton

Steph O’Brien

Carly Remmos

Sara-Jane O’Grady

Lucy Schneider

Mackenzie Findlay

BOND University will look to bounce back when the Bull Sharks hit the road to take on third placed Aspley Hornets tomorrow in Round 5 of the QAFL Women’s competition.
