He clunked seven marks for the game as Tasmania’s brick wall, proving clean and composed in each act. Smedley showed few frills, but along with Tom Prokopiec was an effective defender throughout the carnival.

#12 Karmichael Peters-Chapman
Forward | 180cm | 13/04/2007

Peters-Champan was a forward who made things happen on Thursday, snaring three goals from 11 disposals in a lively outing. He finished nicely with quick snaps from the pocket and popped up in dangerous spots, only needing a bit of space to manufacture an opportunity on goal. If it wasn’t afforded to him, he had little trouble breaking tackles to bide time.

#14 Rylee McHenry
Midfielder | 178cm | 17/07/2007

One of Tasmania’s most solid contributors over the last two legs, McHenry again showed good glimpses for his 15 disposals and six tackles. Starting in midfield, his handling was typically clean and he navigated the contest nicely, making few mistakes with ball in hand on a day where his team was ultimately felled.

#19 Lucas Wooton
Defender | 176cm | 11/05/2007

It was a case of more of the same for Wooton, whose stat line of 20 disposals (16 kicks) and nine rebound 50s is likely to become a typical kind of figure. He took on the kick-in duties and unleashed some lovely kicks across defensive 50, doing most of his work in that realm as the numbers would suggest.

#25 Jasper Hay (MVP)
Ruck | 199cm | 10/05/2007

Awarded MVP honours for his state, Hay returned another promising performance in the ruck. The mobile 199cm talent showed plenty of dexterity for 15 disposals, four marks, and three clearances, while also owning the ruck realm as usual with 26 hitouts. He drops back quickly on the spread and leaps at the ball well, making for strong all-round impact.

Tasmanian MVP Jasper Hay reaches for possessions | Image Credit: Rookie Me Central

GIANTS ACADEMY:

#15 Lachlan Moresi
Defender | 178cm | 08/03/2007

A genuine powerhouse and physical presence, Moresi was again resolute in his primary defensive post. The highlight of his day was a 50m goal on the run in term two, but he consistently shone by attacking the ball hard and playing with intent. He finished the day with 19 disposals and six marks, even spending a bit of time in midfield.

#21 Jarvis Hemmings
Midfielder | 179cm | 02/05/2007

A mainstay in the Giants’ midfield, Hemmings worked hard to register 21 disposals (16 kicks), six tackles, and four breaches of either arc. He did some good things around the ball but was also involved elsewhere; whether it be lowering his eyes to hit a pass inside 50, or dropping back into the hole to help protect his defence and GWS’ lead.

#30 Riley Hayman
Defender | 184cm | 12/03/2007

Much like Tasmania’s Smedley, Hayman was incredibly solid in defence and helped snuff out many an opposition attack. He clunked five marks and was credited with six rebound 50s among his 13 disposals, holding up in one-on-one duels and proving effective despite his, at times, awkward style.

#32 Ryder Corrigan (MVP)
Midfielder | 185cm | 14/03/2007

An absolute monty for MVP honours with the Giants, Corrigan again showed why he’s a prospect to watch for fans of the orange team. Though slightly down on his previous outings, the big bodied midfielder-forward managed 21 disposals, six clearances, and a goal, making light work of opponents at stoppage. He would often roll tackles off his back and surge forward, but also showed finesse with his ability to pick out inboard kicks.

#33 Harrison Wilson
Defender | 185cm | 03/02/2007

A real accumulator in the back half, Wilson notched 20 disposals and four rebound 50s having also spent time in midfield on Thursday. He was typically smooth when moving the ball in transition and worked hard to chain possessions down the field. There’s a good blend of style and effectiveness in his game, as shown throughout the carnival.

#36 Riley Hansen
Forward | 189cm | 06/03/2007

Another physically imposing player in the Giants’ side, Hansen threw his weight around up forward to earn 16 disposals and six marks. He looked best when hitting up at the ball on strong leads, straight-lining the contest and bringing opponents with him. He booted the final goal of the game as reward for effort, putting the cherry on top GWS’ win.

#43 Liam Hetherton
Ruck | 194cm | 02/05/2007

Arguably best afield with 18 disposals, four marks, and three goals, Hetherton played a big part in getting his side over the line. All three of his majors were scored in the second half, with two coming consecutively at the start of term four to snatch the lead. After limping off in the first quarter, he came back with a bang and impacted both in the air and in open play.

THE GIANTS Academy capped off their 2023 AFL Under 16 National Championships campaign with a 15-point win over Tasmania today, credit to a four-goal final quarter charge.
