COLLINGWOOD is now one win away from another VFL Women\u2019s Grand Final, after rolling Port Melbourne by 26 points in yesterday\u2019s Qualifying Final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite letting the Borough get on top in the third term, Collingwood dominated just about the entire rest of the game to come away comfortable winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a scrappy affair early, with clean disposals hard to come by in the opening minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the ball spent much of the first eight minutes between the arcs, the first goal of the game finally came the way of the Pies thanks to Charlotte van der Vlies<\/a> plucking one out of a stoppage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ball then lived in Collingwood\u2019s forward half and its pressure ensured Port Melbourne continued to make errors coming out of defence and a second goal was inevitable. That goal finally came in the 13th minute off the boot of Georgia Ricardo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Melbourne did finally get the ball in its forward 50 in the back half of the quarter, but thanks to a sturdy Collingwood defence the Borough were unable to put any score on the board. As such, the Pies took a 14 point lead into the first break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collingwood was quick to get on the board again early in the second term, with Jessica Bates<\/a> slotting her team’s third through after only a minute and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the ball again spent much of the first half of the quarter in Collingwood\u2019s front half, it eventually did make it into Port Melbourne\u2019s forward 50 and the Borough finally got a goal on the board after B<\/a>eth Wilson<\/a> snuck one through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collingwood then countered with its fourth goal of the game with a few minutes left in the quarter thanks to Monique DeMatteo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caitlin Sargent<\/a> then kicked Collingwood\u2019s sixth inside the final minute of the quarter, which saw the Pies take a 28 point lead into the main break and things looking very good for those in black and white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third quarter really belonged to the Borough though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Port Melbourne who got on the board quickly in the third quarter when it got the ball quickly out of the centre and Federica Frew<\/a> was able to convert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For much of the rest of the first half of the quarter though scoring dried up as the ball pinged between the 50m arcs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second goal of the quarter came 10 minutes in when Alice Campbell<\/a> slotted one from the pocket, and suddenly momentum was starting to move towards Port Melbourne\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ball really lived in Port Melbourne\u2019s forward half for the majority of the third term, and although Campbell\u2019s goal proved to be the last goal of the quarter and the Borough were still 13 points down at the final change, momentum was well and truly with Port Melbourne. The Borough had also kept Collingwood scoreless in that term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crucial first goal of the final quarter went the way of the Pies via the boot of DeMatteo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyakoat Dojiok<\/a> made it two goals for the quarter for the Pies 12 minutes in, and the flame of hope was just about out for Port Melbourne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Borough certainly had a few chances in the last term to score, but were unable to make the most of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That ultimately proved to be the case as Port Melbourne went goalless in the final term and Collingwood proved too strong. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
