A SUPER Saturday bonanza in the VFLW produced some surprising results and big winners as two new teams joined the fold. It was a bad week to be the home team, with six of the seven visiting teams leaving enemy territory with four points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casey kicked off the weekend with an upset, downing the Kangaroos by a mere three points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Demons got the better of the starts, which helped them hold on as an inaccurate Roos fought back as the game progressed – albeit to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joanna Lin<\/a> and Niamh O’Neill<\/a> were the top goal scorers for Casey with two each, while Audrey Rhodes<\/a> and Maddie Di Cosmo<\/a> were tackling machines for North Melbourne, laying 25 and 14 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Geelong continued the shocks to start the weekend, picking up its first win of the season with a three-goal defeat of Southern Saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Saints led for most of the match, but things fell apart for them in the final term as the Cats stormed back to take the points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Abbey McDonald<\/a> was prominent in attack for the Cats despite only putting one goal on the board, while Samantha Gooden<\/a> fought hard all day in the ruck despite shouldering much of the load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Saints, Chloe Hunt<\/a> again starred up forward with two majors, while Ella Friend<\/a> saw plenty of the ball and got herself a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Essendon is also on the board for 2024 after comfortably downing Darebin on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Falcons posted the first goal of the match but could not muster another as Essendon ultimately ran away with the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ashlea Melnikas<\/a> and El Chaston<\/a> both continued their strong starts to the season with another strong performance for Essendon, while for Darebin Victoria Blackwood<\/a> and Riley Christgoergl<\/a> both impressed in defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Box Hill remains undefeated this VFLW season after accounting for Collingwood to the tune of 34 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although it was not to the scale of its first two wins this season, Box Hill still did it comfortably by keeping the Pies goalless all game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tamara Smith<\/a> saw plenty of the ball for the Hawks, as did Charlotte Baskaran<\/a> while also finishing as the only multiple goalkicker afield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for Collingwood, Kaitlyn Day<\/strong> and Marnie Jarvis<\/a> were prolific through midfield heading into attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sydney Swans marked their entry into the VFLW in spectacular fashion, easily accounting for the Western Bulldogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Swans kept their opponents to a single point in the first half and continued to run over the top with seven second half goals, despite the Bulldogs eventually posting three of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Montana Ham<\/a> kicked five majors in the win and saw plenty of the ball, while Laura Gardiner<\/a> picked up a whopping 47 disposals and 14 tackles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Bulldogs Sarah Skinner<\/a> was prolific in midfield, and Isadora McLeay<\/a> laid the same number of tackles as she had disposals, 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n GWS stamped an emphatic return to the VFLW with an eight-point win over Carlton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Blues led right through the first half, but a scoreless third quarter saw the Giants take the lead, and even though they also went scoreless in the final term, Carlton was still unable to reel in the deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the victors, Zarlie Goldsworthy<\/a> and Kaitlyn Srhoj<\/a> both had impressive outings and got their hands dirty around the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for Carlton, Mia Austin<\/a> was the only player on the ground to kick multiple goals, while Lily Goss<\/a> proved prolific and almost had as many tackles as she had disposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Port Melbourne remains undefeated this season after defeating Williamstown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After somewhat of a slow start from both sides, Port grew into the game as it progressed and the Seagulls fell short in their game of catch-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eilish Sheerin<\/a> was prolific for the Borough, picking up plenty of the ball and recording a lot of clearances, while Mackenzie Ford<\/a> was a tackling machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile for the Seagulls, Emily Eaves<\/a> had another great game, while Sharnie Whiting<\/a> was their only goalkicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\nSouthern Saints 5.6 (36) def. by Geelong 8.6 (54)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
