IT was an intriguing round of action in the VFL Women\u2019s, with not all results going the way many expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Melbourne are into the top four after a win over Port Melbourne under the Friday night lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The margin was tight at quarter time, but the Roos really kicked away in the second term so when the Borough outscored them in the second half they still had enough of a buffer to take the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alana Barba<\/a> (three goals) and Matilda Zander<\/a> (two goals) were on fire in front of goal for the Roos, while Eloise Ashley-Cooper<\/a> and Lauren Caruso<\/a> both impressed again for the Borough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Darebin continues to throw plenty of spanners in the works of the season, bouncing back from last week\u2019s heartbreak to defeat the previously second placed Bulldogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was clear that the home side had done its homework on the more fancied Bulldogs, shutting down their key weapons and giving its own forwards plenty of chances to run rampant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Monique DeMatteo<\/a> had a field day in front of goal for the Falcons, kicking five goals and being an absolute menace for the Dogs\u2019 defenders. Meanwhile up the other end, Simone Ruedin<\/a> was at the forefront of keeping the Bulldogs\u2019 powerful forwardline quiet. Meanwhile for the Bulldogs, Jaimi Tabb<\/a> played an important role up forward, while Dominique Carbone<\/a> continued to lead from the front through midfield despite it not often going her side’s way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Williamstown further cemented their place on top of the VFLW ladder with a comfortable win over the Saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Seagulls just progressively kept building on their lead as the match progressed, while also really stunting the Saints\u2019 scoreboard progress, keeping them goalless for three of the four quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sharnie Whiting<\/a> was the only multiple goal kicker on the ground with two to her name, while Ashlee Thorneycroft<\/a> worked hard through midfield for the victorious visitors. Tessa Boyd<\/a> and Georgia Foran<\/a> both saw plenty of the ball for the Saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Collingwood ensured its finals hopes stay alive for at least one more week after defeating Casey Demons by 15 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Dees actually did lead for much of the first quarter, but once the Pies got a goal late, it was all Collingwood from there as Casey\u2019s scoring truly failed to get off the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sarah Ingram<\/a> and Akayla Peterson<\/a> were prolific around the ball for the Pies, as was Meg Macdonald<\/a> and Tegan Williams<\/a> for the Dees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlton has kept its finals hopes well and truly alive after a solid win over Essendon. The win could have been bigger, but crucially for Carlton, the Blues led just about all day, and ultimately kicked away in the last quarter to take the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlton\u2019s top goalkicker was an unlikely source with Maddy Guerin<\/a> kicking two majors, while Abbie McKay<\/a> had a really strong game in the clearance department For the Bombers, Ruby Mahony<\/a> and Maddison Ford<\/a> were prolific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Box Hill closed out the round with a statement win, thrashing Geelong. The Hawks were already four goals ahead at quarter time, and the margin only grew from there as the match progressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Box Hill certainly had plenty of goalkickers, with Tamara Luke<\/a> kicking four and Jessica Matin<\/a>, Mietta Kendall<\/a> and Gabby Collingwood<\/a> all finishing with two apiece. Meanwhile for the Cats, Poppy Schaap<\/a> and Lily Jordan<\/a> fought hard in the uphill battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\nDarebin 6.5 (41) defeated Western Bulldogs 3.5 (23)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
