{"id":164402,"date":"2024-07-11T17:32:47","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T07:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/?p=164402"},"modified":"2024-07-11T17:32:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T07:32:49","slug":"lins-long-career-list-not-quite-written-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/2024\/07\/11\/lins-long-career-list-not-quite-written-yet\/","title":{"rendered":"Lin&#8217;s long career list not quite written yet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MAKING the AFLW is a huge achievement, but then getting delisted can be a huge shock to the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is the scenario <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"46483\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/joanna-lin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joanna Lin<\/a> faced, having experienced both ends of the scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drafted to Collingwood in 2020, she played four seasons at the top before being delisted after the 2023 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said getting delisted was \u201cdefinitely disappointing\u201d and she was \u201cupset\u201d about it, \u201cbut obviously I wasn&#8217;t performing on the field as I would have hoped. So I kind of knew it was coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was definitely disappointed and upset but I wasn&#8217;t surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite how things ended, she still says that it \u201cwas a dream come true\u201d to get drafted at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI didn&#8217;t really know there was opportunity.\u00a0 But once my name got called out, it was just surreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So many people talk about it, but then being able to actually get there, it&#8217;s such a surreal feeling that&#8217;s hard to explain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also still speaks very fondly of her time at Collingwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a great time,&#8221; Lin said. &#8220;Honestly, they were like my second family for all the time that I was there. And even still now, I\u2019m still friends with a lot of people, still catch up with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was just such a great time, inviting environment where you could just be yourself, and just so happened the perk was that you got to play football at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After her time in the AFLW it was time to find a new home for this year\u2019s VFLW season, and thanks to an old friendship she found herself at Casey Fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m good friends with <strong><em>Jessie Mulholland<\/em><\/strong> [Melbourne\u2019s head of women\u2019s football], and she rang me, told me to go down and do some trainings. I had interest from other clubs and also went to other clubs and train there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But it was when I went up to Darwin with one of the other girls and played there and I remembered I just want to have fun playing footy again, and Casey, when I was there, all the girls there were inviting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat kind of made me think, &#8216;oh yeah, this is probably where I could actually find joy for footy again&#8217;. &#8220;If it wasn&#8217;t for Jesse&#8217;s call to head down to Casey, I&#8217;d probably be somewhere else. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She may be known as a midfielder these days, but the story of her playing in that position has some cruisy origins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy coach put me in there, so I just went with the flow.
