{"id":168288,"date":"2024-08-20T16:47:06","date_gmt":"2024-08-20T06:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/?p=168288"},"modified":"2024-08-20T16:47:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T06:47:07","slug":"pearces-persistence-pays-off-with-second-chance-at-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/2024\/08\/20\/pearces-persistence-pays-off-with-second-chance-at-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"Pearce&#8217;s persistence pays off with second chance at dream"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>OF all the stories of the last year, <a href=\"\/afl\/player\/lilly-pearce\/\" data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"81996\" class=\"_dc_spo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lilly Pearce<\/a>\u2019s perhaps has the most twists and turns of them all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After starting 2023 playing for Southport in the QAFLW, she then found herself with an AFLW injury replacement contract at Richmond, before moving across to the VFLW and then being given a second chance at the AFLW by Geelong for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite everything that has come Pearce\u2019s way in the last year or so, it has not been overwhelming for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think people from home generally miss you a lot more than you miss them,\u201d Pearce said. \u201cProbably just because you&#8217;re creating a new life for yourself and you&#8217;ve got so much distraction and you&#8217;re just so focused on getting to work and doing what you need to do. So I think that it seemed overwhelming, but it&#8217;s probably not as much as it seems.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pearce has come a long way since her early days in the code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy mum actually made me play,&#8221; she said. &#8220;My siblings were signing up to play AFL and she said, you&#8217;re going to do it too. Went to the first training and ended up loving it. So, stopped athletics and pursued football.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pearce\u2019s journey to being signed at Richmond is one that shows that dedication can get you far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo I was playing for Southport Sharks in the QAFLW and did that for a few years,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Loved it.
