NOT only did Shineah Goody<\/a> earn a Rising Star nomination from her debut game, but she was also rewarded with a contract extension which will see her don the teal, black and white until 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 18-year-old spoke about learning about her nomination and what it means to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It\u2019s pretty surreal really to get that sort of recognition [from] the competition, [I\u2019m] more so trying to get those wins on the board instead of my own accolades really,” Goody said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday night, Goody showed why she was a highly-touted youngster. She collected 15 disposals, four tackles and a goal to go with 423 metres gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She reflected on what it\u2019s been like to be one of the best young players coming through the system and how she\u2019s dealt with those expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I tried my hardest not to look into that sort of stuff, obviously that\u2019s just external noise and all I\u2019m trying to do is play my role for the team,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If I\u2019m getting the job done with what the team needs right now then that\u2019s all I\u2019m focusing on right now.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming to Alberton as a 15-year-old and spending two years at Port Adelaide\u2019s Next Generation, Goody described how she feels about signing on for the next few seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“[I\u2019m] super pumped to be signing on until 2026,” Goody said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It\u2019s really good to have that sort of security from the club, especially being a first-year player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“[I\u2019m] really looking forward to what we can do over the next two years as well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goody opened up on how she\u2019s transitioned from the academy system through to being a teammate to some of the idols she\u2019s looked up to in the league.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was in the Port next generation academy, so I was able to be pre-signed to the club,” Goody explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think when I was maybe around 14 or 15 [years-old] I did two years here [and] there\u2019s obviously a lot of girls in the team right now that I went through that academy with which was super cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Through state [footy] as well I got to play with a lot of the girls here as well so it just helps with that connection and having those friendships as well that we\u2019ve built, which has been helpful.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After receiving her league debut and a Rising Star Nomination, Goody is not resting on her laurels. She was not overly happy with her performance stating that she has so much more to show at the level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I wasn\u2019t really that happy with my performance really, I feel like my strengths to my team is my run and carry, and my footy smarts and I don\u2019t think I showcased a heap of that,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“[I\u2019m] just sort of working on that and trying to improve every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was obviously really cool to kick my first goal in my first game as well as wearing the prison bars in [front] of a sold-out crowd, which was so surreal.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
