{"id":173791,"date":"2024-10-07T13:39:58","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T03:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/?p=173791"},"modified":"2024-10-07T13:40:13","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T03:40:13","slug":"cats-secure-second-win-over-swans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/2024\/10\/07\/cats-secure-second-win-over-swans\/","title":{"rendered":"Cats secure second win over Swans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>GEELONG fought off a fast finishing Sydney by three points yesterday to secure its second win of the season and keep its finals hopes alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting post match, Cats coach Dan Lowther noted that his heart rate \u201chad come down a bit\u201d after the tight finish, saying that \u201cit was hard to watch\u201d but it was also \u201cexciting footy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought what we had done prior to that the last 15-20 of the game was really positive enough to give us that confidence in the last quarter that we\u2019re doing things right,\u201d Lowther continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFull credit to the Swans, that surge, use the breeze really well, try a few little tricks here and there. They played their need scenarios really well. Our girls defended it towards the end and did enough which I\u2019m really proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining her coach at the post match press conference, Geelong skipper <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"42935\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/meghan-mcdonald\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meghan McDonald<\/a> noted how important it was to get the win without key midfielder <a href=\"\/afl\/player\/amy-mcdonald\/\" data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"50256\" class=\"_dc_spo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amy McDonald<\/a>, who is still on the sidelines with injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmes has been our best player for a number of years,&#8221; she said. &#8220;She so important for us to get the ball from the inside out [but] we\u2019ve got other players who can do it. Shoutout to <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"81978\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/bella-smith-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bella Smith<\/a> who made her club debut today and she was brought in for that reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome of her contested ball was really impressive. <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"30932\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/nina-morrison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nina<\/a> and <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"30817\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/georgie-prespakis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prezzy<\/a> and all the other minds really stood in that space as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With finals hopes alive for the Cats, Lower shared what his side\u2019s focus and pre-game focus is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor us, it\u2019s regaining the way we play our game to a level that\u2019s required to win games,\u201d Lowther said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been in games as Meg mentioned before up to our necks but we just haven&#8217;t got across the line so the aim for today was to win. The aim for today was to win and we move on to Richmond next week and the aim is the same.
