NORTHERN Knights key forward Gabriel Stumpf<\/a> has lifted his stocks after achieving the top performance rating at this year’s National Draft Combine. The mobile tall finished with an overall score of 89.3 having notched the highest standing vertical jump (76cm), and fastest 20-metre sprint (2.815 seconds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performance ratings take into account each athlete’s age, gender and position, providing a relative summary rating of their physical performance across all metrics for the event. If a player rates as elite in all categories they will achieve a score of 100. Stumpf rated elite in two of five categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pick one contender Finn O’Sullivan<\/a> showcased his spring with podium finishes across both running vertical jumps, while the aptly named ‘Flying Viking’ Alix Tauru<\/a> leapt highest at 94cm. Bo Allan<\/a> excelled in both the jumps and agility test, which was topped by Suns Academy star Leo Lombard<\/a> (7.812 seconds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stumpf, Allan, and Tauru were among the tall prospects to showcase their athleticism, in line with the new age footballing prototype. Another in that category was Swans Academy standout Joel Cochran<\/a>, who took out the 2km time trial with a time of 6:05 in windy conditions at the AIA Vitality Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Records tumbled across the day. Stumpf’s 20m sprint was the fifth-quickest in Combine history, while Lombard’s agility test time was the sixth-best. The AFL only maintains National Combine records if the athlete goes on to be drafted by an AFL club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
