{"id":177846,"date":"2024-12-13T08:01:17","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T22:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/?p=177846"},"modified":"2024-12-13T08:01:18","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T22:01:18","slug":"life-time-pie-wins-maiden-best-and-fairest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central.rookieme.com\/afl\/2024\/12\/13\/life-time-pie-wins-maiden-best-and-fairest\/","title":{"rendered":"Life-time Pie wins maiden Best and Fairest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AS THE AFL Women\u2019s season starts to wind down, clubs are starting to award their club best and fairests, recognising the stars of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this new series from&nbsp;<em>Rookie Me Central<\/em>, we take a look at the seasons of these club champions and what led them to have such stellar seasons. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up in the series, we take a look at the season of an inaugural Pie, <a data-type=\"player\" data-id=\"29787\" class=\"_dc_spo\" href=\"\/afl\/player\/ruby-schleicher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruby Schleicher<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Collingwood vice-captain has taken home her maiden Best and Fairest award in her ninth season at the club off the back of a challenging injury-interrupted season in 2023. A foundation member of this squad and the youngest draftee in 2016, Schleicher&#8217;s award cements her as one of Collingwood&#8217;s best players of the first nine seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing all 11 games in 2024 after managing just two last season, Schleicher polled 110 votes to finish ahead of stand-out first year defender <strong>Lucy Cronin<\/strong> and midfield star <strong>Brittany Bonnici<\/strong>. Irish winger <strong>Sarah Rowe<\/strong> and midfielder <strong>Mikala Cann<\/strong> rounded out the top five in the count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schleicher&#8217;s return to form after a niggling foot injury has been welcomed by her team and their supporters, who had a challenging 2024 from a results perspective.
