Poppy Scholz<\/a> Heading into the AFL Women’s Draft, Carlton fans hoped that father-daughter selection Sophie McKay <\/strong>would get past their first selection before receiving a bid, and that she did. Not only that, but it was beginning to look like she might even just make it to the Blues’ second rounder, before Geelong finally placed a bid at 17 on the daughter of Andrew<\/em><\/strong> and sister of Abbie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Prior to McKay making her way to Ikon Park, the Blues also selected fellow National Academy member Poppy Scholz<\/strong>, sister of Port Adelaide young gun Matilda<\/strong>. Her elder sister is coming off a best and fairest at the Power in just her second season, as well as Mark of the Year. With similar star power, and an incredible athletic base, expect her to quickly endear herself to Blues fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With the Blues’ third and final selection, Carlton picked up Western Jets skipper Lou-Lou Field<\/strong>, who became a Coates Talent League Girls premiership player in her double bottom-age season, and overcame some injury off-season interruptions to produce a consistent year for both the Jets, and Vic Metro where she held up a key role in defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In terms of how the trio will impact at AFLW level, Scholz and Field provide immediate intercept marking and rebounding capabilities from the back half. The pair have great vision and are able to hit targets further afield while also nullifying an opponent.
