I really like her as a defender and Subi like her as a forward. She’s played well at both ends. Tall, left-footer and really competitive as well, really good at one-on-ones, looking forward to seeing her year.”

SUMMARY

Peters first emerged on the national stage in 2023 when playing for the Sandgropers at the AFL Women’s Under 16s Championships. There, Peters played a key role in the backline to blunt the impact of the Vic Country forwards and emerge as a talented defender. However she showed her versatility through the Rogers Cup, thrown forward late in the year and kicked five goals from her last three games for the Lions.

In 2024, Peters spent the year in Rogers Cup once again, playing 17 matches in the development competition, though did get a chance in the preseason to represent the senior Lions. Against her peers, Peters slotted a deadly accurate 16.4 at almost a goal per game, with her early season form a highlight, racking up 15 goals in 10 matches while being an option to go back.

Ultimately her side missed out on a flag last season going down to the most dominant Rogers Cup team of late in West Perth, but Peters is one who showed she can take the next step up to League level in 2025. Having already turned 18 over a month ago, she enters the year with a big season ahead and will add some excitement with her aerial abilities and reading the play.

Mentions

Sunni-Quay Peters

WHILE yet to debut at WAFL Women’s level, top-ager Sunni-Quay Peters kicks off our 15 WAFL Women’s top-agers to watch in 2025, with the Subiaco prospect one who has impressed at junior level.
