AN EQUAL record-breaking haul of nine goals made Oakleigh Chargers bottom-ager Bailee Martin<\/a> an easy choice for the Rookie Me Central Coates Talent League Girls Player of the Week for Round 1. Martin booted 9.2 to share the all-time individual goals in a game record with teammate Amelie Gladman<\/a>, who coincidentally kicked the only other Chargers goal during Oakleigh’s 30-point win over Northern Knights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin finished with a remarkable statline of 16 disposals, nine marks and nine goals, with a couple of tackles and three hitouts thrown in for good measure. Playing the deep forward role perfectly, she was a headache for the Knights’ defence, booting four goals in the first and third terms to make it eight by the last change. When the talented bottom-ager kicked her ninth at the five and a half minute mark of the fourth term, a record surely beckoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But despite having a chance in the dying seconds to make it a round 10 goals, she kicked a second behind to finish on 9.2 for the match. It was a phenomenal effort from one of the top prospects for next year, who clunked three contested marks among her nine, and 11 of her 12 kicks were scoring shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin’s nine-goal effort usurped the normally remarkable six-goal performance from Rose Bell<\/a> the day before as the Murray bottom-ager put Bendigo Pioneers to the sword. Dandenong had a host of impressive players who shared the load in the Stingrays’ win, while another bottom-ager in Brylee Anderson<\/a> racked up 31 disposals, seven clearances, six tackles and seven inside 50s in Eastern’s win over Sandringham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile up at Highgate Recreation Reserve, Chloe Baker-West<\/a> had a day out in Calder’s narrow win over Western, finishing with 38 disposals, five marks, seven tackles, six clearances four inside 50s and four rebound 50s. In the same game, fellow National Academy member and teammate Jade McLay<\/a> finished with 31 disposals, four clearances and eight inside 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
