BRISBANE Lions Academy finished the 2025 AFL Women’s Under 16 Development Championships with a 1-1 record, defeating Vic Country thanks to a dominant second half, before having a slow start against South Australia and going down by 56 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RESULTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Brisbane Lions Academy 13.8 (86) def Vic Country 7.4 (46) | Scouting Notes<\/a> TOP TALENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n #1 <\/strong>Ameleia Murray<\/a> Murray caught the eye the most across the two games, averaging 20 disposals, 2.5 marks, 4.0 tackles, 3.0 clearances and 3.0 inside 50s, cracking in and playing almost different styles. In the win over Vic Country, Murray had more space and was able to be more of a facilitator, while in the loss to South Australia, she dug deep to be more of that inside ball-winner with high-level defensive pressure. That versatility within the midfield is valuable and she has some nice evasive techniques as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NAMES TO REMEMBER:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n #2 <\/strong>Lucy Ashcroft<\/a> No doubt the next two years will come with plenty of excitement for Brisbane fans with the father-daughter prospect having some nice traits that suit to a midfield\/forward game. She moves well, gets into ball-winning positions and perhaps the key difference is her incredible tackling pressure. Laying six and nine tackles across the two matches, she averaged the second most tackles in her side. Ashcroft’s high footy IQ follows in the footsteps of her older brothers Will<\/strong> and Levi<\/strong> in that regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #16<\/strong> Evie Baker<\/a> Looked strong in the defensive 50 and had a tough job against the Croweaters but worked hard driving the ball consistently down the ground. She ended the day early a little sore and had to be helped off, but prior to that she did everything right. Baker can be a two-way running defender, providing run and carry from the back half or being accountable to an opponent. Had 19 disposals and seven rebound 50s in that loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #24<\/strong> Edie Fraser<\/a> Fraser is a really powerful and smart forward who for a top-age comparison, is very similar to Eve<\/strong> Connolly<\/strong> (Dandenong Stingrays). She goes at it like a bull at a gate without the ball, and then with the ball only needs a split second look to inflict serious scoreboard pressure. She booted four goals in the win over Vic Country and was a real livewire mostly snapping around her body on an angle. A well-balanced offensive and defensive forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #28<\/strong> Indiana Scheffler<\/a> The tall who worked in tandem with Fraser against Vic Country to kick three goals, Scheffler is a strong target for players to kick too. She is capable overhead and uses her frame well both one-on-one or at ground level, showing nice mobility in that game to soccer home a major as well. She had a lot less chances against South Australia but battled hard to still take a few marks and pump the ball inside 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n OTHERS WHO IMPRESSED:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When under pressure, Chloe Musial<\/a> was strong out of the back 50 looking good against South Australia and saving a heavier scoreline, while Lucca Hall<\/a> had a big game against Vic Country and is still a bottom-age prospect at these championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
