It is the battle everyone has been waiting for with the two undefeated sides in the WAFL Women’s going head-to-head to kick off Round 7. Subiaco is coming off a bye in Round 6 with Claremont’ victory over Perth seeing the Tigers join the Lions at 5-0. Both sides have some key outs though which makes the clash fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subiaco has lost two of its AFLW players due to the preseason starting, with Dana Hooker<\/a> (West Coast) and as off a fortnight ago, Maggie MacLachlan<\/a> (Essendon) heading off to their respective clubs. Ex-Swans midfielder Paige Sheppard<\/a> provides a much needed boost given the outs, with Claudia Langley<\/a> and Charlotte Newland<\/a> the others to come into the side. Claremont is also without two of its stars, mising two-time Dhara Kerr Medallist Jayme Harken<\/a> and fellow former Eagle, Sasha Goranova<\/a>. They regain the speed of Ella Gilbey<\/a> up forward, while Savannah Muir<\/a> is the other inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AFLW DRAFT TALENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides have plenty of draftable talent across the board, with the Lions boasting two National Academy members in Olivia Wolmarans<\/a> and Olivia Crane<\/a> up respective ends. Sunni-Quay Peters<\/a> has been named on a wing in a slight change of role up from defence, while Layla Quinn-Schofield<\/a> will provide a target inside 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Claremont is not short on talent either with Gilbey joining second-gamer Hannah Seaborn<\/a> coming off a starring four-goal debut, while Juliet Kelly<\/a> will have more midfield responsibility given the outs of Harken and Goranova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PREDICTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two heavyweights of this season go at it, but considering the outs for Claremont and the homeground advantage, the tip lays with Subiaco given the experience through the middle and talented young kids coming through.<\/p>\n

Two young sides who have maintained their advantage over Perth this season will be hungry to get a second win against an opponent that is beatable. Both teams will believe they can take home the win, with Peel having been incredibly competitive bar the loss to West Perth last round, while East Perth has had more ups and downs than the Thunder this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

East Perth has opted for three changes this week with Kate Inglis-Hodge<\/a> and Kahra Sprylan<\/a> adding much needed experience to the Royals lineup, while Stefany Stack<\/a> also comes into the team. Neve McAlister<\/a> and Kiahn Perry<\/a> are a couple of the omissions who drop back to being emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peel Thunder have also made three changes, unfortunately losing Cassie Davidson<\/a> as well as Heidi Ireland<\/a> – who had been in some nice form – and Makinley Minchin<\/a>. Charlize Thompson<\/a> is one of three inclusions with Tayla Cooper<\/a> and McKayla Peck<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AFLW DRAFT TALENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peel will look to its double bottom-age duo and All-Australian pair of Charlie Fletcher<\/a> and Tiama Collard<\/a> in the contest, while Charli Bassett<\/a> is an exciting half-forward with plenty of upside for the Royals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PREDICTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peel Thunder has been the better side thus far in season 2025 and if last week was an aberration rather than a sign of things to come, should get the job done. However if the Royals can punish the Thunder like the Falcons did, then East Perth is every chance of coming away with a positive result especially given the Thunder are missing a couple of key players from the defensive half.<\/p>\n

Swan Districts threw its hat in the premiership ring after a comprehensive win over East Fremantle last week, and with just the one loss to-date, the Black Ducks enter the clash against the winless Perth ready to make it a 5-1 record. The Demons have shown competitiveness throughout matches but just don’t quite have the finishing touches yet, though a win later in the season is not out of question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swan Districts will enter the clash without Lauren Quaife<\/a> which means slightly smaller, but do regain the hard-running and experience of Emma Humphries<\/a> who missed in Round 6. Perth on the other hand has opted for an unchanged lineup for the first time this season, backing in the side to do the job for another week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AFLW DRAFT TALENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
In-form midfielder Carys D’Addario<\/a> has hardly put a foot wrong all year and will be a strong force through the middle once again, while Ava Stewart<\/a> kicked two goals from four touches last week. Sienna Gerardi<\/a> poses problems for the opposition defence given her explosive speed, while for the Demons, Mia Carlshausen<\/a> and Addison Opalinski<\/a> provided important run and carry behind the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PREDICTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Swan Districts should bag another win here. The Swans look too experienced and are destined for big things this season, while Perth is still learning the ropes with a stack of young talent developing along the way. Hopefully the Demons can stick with the home side for as long as possible to make it a contest.<\/p>\n

West Perth found its best form in Round 6 with a dominant win over Peel Thunder. While on paper it was a game the Falcons always should have won, they picked the Thunder apart like no other side has been able to do so convincingly. Now they take on an East Fremantle side that has not hit the highs of the last few years with quite a few new faces coming into the team. If the Sharks are to make finals, they simply have to win this, though the Falcons can gain some breathing space with a victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

East Fremantle head into the match without the services of Jae Flynn<\/a>, while also omitting Ava Anderson<\/a>. The two replacements are Tessa Lynch<\/a> and Charlotte McGregor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AFLW DRAFT TALENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
A couple of AFLW Academy members will cross paths with West Perth midfielder Mia Russo<\/a> and East Fremantle’s Alicia Blizard<\/a> in the match. The Falcons also have a couple of bottom-age talents to watch such as Cara Dziegielewski<\/a> and Lexi Strachan<\/a>, while top-age Sharks defender Maya Louvel-Finn<\/a> is enjoying a terrific season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PREDICTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
West Perth looks to be the more stable side at the moment. While East Fremantle is always too strong to write off, the recent form has not been great for the Sharks, and if the Falcons bring the same energy they did last week in front of a home crowd this week, then it should be good enough to win.<\/p>\n
