IN ARGUABLY the most evenly distributed WAFL Women’s Team of the Week, each of the eight sides have between two and four representatives, with six of them boasting three-plus players. Each contest across the weekend was relatively even leading to the spread, with Swan Districts and Peel Thunder both both boasting a league-high four representatives for Round 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captaining the side for Round 7 is actually Perth midfielder and co-captain Isabella Shannon<\/a> after she was instrumental in the Demons’ defeat to Swan Districts with a massive 31 disposals, six marks, seven tackles and four inside 50s. The ex-Saint was joined in the hypothetical leadership group by ex-AFLW Blue Chloe Wrigley<\/a> who racked up the ball with ease on her way to 36 touches, four marks, five tackles and four inside 50s in the Thunder’s win over East Perth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Taking two of the three on-ball spots, another ex-AFLW talent in Subiaco’s Paige Sheppard<\/a> rounded out the core, while young gun ruck Cara Dziegielewski<\/a> was huge for West Perth in defeating East Fremantle for the first time in women’s club history. Another future star in Under 16s All-Australian Charlie Fletcher<\/a> was named on a wing, with East Perth’s Elly Sara<\/a> slotting onto the other wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The team is hardly short on State Academy members as well, with the half-forward line featuring them exclusively. Top-age key forward Olivia Wolmarans<\/a> is at centre half-forward, with Tiama Collard<\/a> and Carys D’Addario<\/a> flanking her, the latter just nudged out of the on-ball group and therefore named at half-forward. Her Swans teammate and fellow top-ager Sienna Gerardi<\/a> is in a pocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A third Swan Districts player finds her way inside 50 with Emily McGuire<\/a> kicking two goals and providing a presence up forward, while Subiaco’s Eva Popovsky<\/a> rounds out the front six having done all she could in the Lions’ draw with Claremont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Up the other end of the field, Team of the Week regular Maya Louvel-Finn<\/a> is once again in the side, next to her experienced teammate Leanne Gubbins<\/a> at full-back. Perth bottom-ager Mia Carlshausen<\/a> continues to impress since returning to the team as a skilful, running half-back, while a pair of Tigers in Matilda Sergeant<\/a> and Mackenzie Webb<\/a> are across the half-backline with fellow ex-AFLW player Emily Bennett<\/a> who was best-on for West Perth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Looking to the bench and there is a mix of players with current State Academy members Charli Bassett<\/a> (East Perth) and Lexi Strachan<\/a> (West Perth), while Perth co-captain Holly Britton<\/a> and her former Peel Thunder teammate Gracie Fenton<\/a> in there.
