<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div>\nOakleigh Chargers just do not know how to lose. No matter the momentum or obstacle they have to overcome, they just find a way to get the job done. First it was against Eastern Ranges in the grand final rematch, and on Saturday evening, it was a sterling comeback against Dandenong Stingrays in a chilly Frankston to remain undefeated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides traded blows throughout the first term with the Chargers having the breeze and taking a three-point lead into the opening change. However with the wind behind their backs. the Stingrays hit back last in the second quarter booting two goals in the final four minutes – to Evi Irving<\/a> and Kiara Triep<\/a> to go from a two-point deficit to a 10-point lead at half-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phenomenal goalkicker Bailee Martin<\/a> quickly put her side back on top through the third term with back-to-back majors, only for Triep to slot a set shot after the siren for the Stingrays to again regain the lead heading into the final term. It was just four points the margin, though when Sophie White<\/a> converted in the 11th minute, the score read 41-31 and even for a side such as Oakleigh, in those conditions it would be a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Martin made it look like a breeze despite kicking into it, and in the blink of an eye, the tables had turned and the bottom-age gun had booted five and Oakleigh was in front with a few minutes to play. Both sides had their chances as the umpires let the play go on despite some frustration from the home fans. Despite the Stingrays’ best efforts, the Chargers got free and Bown – with the last kick of the game – iced the match with a goal to make it an eight-point final margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Martin finished with another five goals to her name from 16 touches, five marks, four tackles and four inside 50s, while Chloe Bown<\/a> (28 disposals, five marks, five tackles, six clearances and 11 inside 50s) was best on ground across the four quarters. Fellow midfielders Isabella Mazzei<\/a> (21 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances and three inside 50s) and Zoe Curry<\/a> (20 disposals, three marks, six tackles, four clearances and five inside 50s) were also very good in the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Stingrays, Lillian Snow<\/a> played a massive role between midfield and attack, having seven clearances and laying 11 tackles from 20 disposals, while Matilda Argus<\/a> (20 disposals, four marks, seven tackles, three clearances, six inside 50s and three rebound 50s), Alice Cunnington<\/a> (15 disposals, two marks, eight tackles, three clearances and three inside 50s) were prominent too. In defence, Mizuki Brothwell<\/a> (19 disposals, five marks, five tackles, three clearances and six rebound 50s) and Ruby Geurts<\/a> (15 disposals, six rebound 50s) worked hard all game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dandenong Stingrays play on Sunday at Deakin Reserve in Shepparton against Murray Bushrangers despite both teams missing some quality players due to the national championships. Oakleigh Chargers will wait a further week before taking on Western Jets at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee from 11am on Saturday, June 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
