WILSTON Grange has leapt past Bond University to snatch fourth spot following Round 13 of the QAFL Women’s competition on Saturday. The Gorillas were neck-and-neck throughout the first half, leading by nine points at the main break before booting four goals to one in the second half to come away with the 7.11 (53) to 3.1 (19) victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a massive mid-table clash between fourth and fifth, it was the latter who came away with the four points in front of a home crowd at Hickey Park. Dominating the air with 50 marks to 14, the Gorillas had 19 more disposals and 20 more inside 50s to also take control of field position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following a goalless first term, the floodgates opened in the second as the home side took a nine-point lead into half-time before a three goals to one term stretched that advantage out to 26 points with a quarter to play. Holding the Bull Sharks scoreless in the final quarter, Wilston Grange kicked the only major and secured the comfortable 34-point win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tahlia Kendall<\/a> (three goals) and Naomi Celebre<\/a> (two) were the multiple goalkickers for the winners, while in an even team performance, Keyshia Matenga<\/a> recorded 20 disposals, six marks and four clearances to be named best on by the coaches. She was well supported by the likes of Hayley Finning<\/strong> (18 disposals, two marks, four clearances and four inside 50s) and Kaiya Hides<\/a> (18 disposals, three marks, four clearances and three inside 50s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Bull Sharks, Grace Moodie<\/strong> managed a match-high 23 disposals, as well as three marks and four tackles, while skipper Shannon Nolan<\/a> recorded 19 disposals and laid five tackles. Bottom-age talent Freya Ross<\/a> (23 disposals, three marks, five clearances, nine tackles and eight inside 50s was a star for the winners, with Eva Sartor<\/a> also strong around the stoppages. Roxy Beuzeville<\/a> was best for the Roos in defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile the other three games were all 100-point beltings headlined by Coorparoo’s 177-7 triumph over Yeronga South Brisbane. Chloe Haines<\/a> (24 disposals, six marks and four goals) and Chelsea Chesterfield<\/a> (20 disposals, 10 marks and six goals) was dominant, while double bottom-age tall forward Indiana Scheffler<\/a> kicked four majors in the massive victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Southport’s unbeaten streak continued with a 125-point demolition of Aspley Hornets, 19.19 (133) to 1.2 (8). Kierra Zerafa<\/a> racked up 40 disposals, while Sunny Lappin<\/a> continued her blistering form with 31 disposals, three marks, eight clearances, six inside 50s and two goals. Dekota Baron<\/a> played her best game since returning from injury with five snaps from 15 disposals and four marks. Fellow top five prospect Georja Davies<\/a> finished with 25 disposals, 16 hitouts, four clearances, three tackles and a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, in a second battle between the two newest sides, Morningside Panthers crushed Moreton Bay Lions by an even 100 points, 15.16 (106) to 1.0 (6). Gracie and Laura Roy<\/a> combined for 60 disposals, 12 marks, 13 clearances and 14 inside 50s, with the latter also slamming home 5.3 in a ridiculous performance.
