FIVE WAFL Women’s teams shared in a league-high four players apiece for our Round 16 Team of the Week in an entertaining round of action. The four winning teams – Claremont, East Fremantle, Swan Districts and West Perth – as well as narrow loser Subiaco all had a quartet of representatives, while Perth had two, and Peel Thunder and East Perth had one apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Swan Districts ball magnet Jaime Henry<\/a> earned our captaincy for Round 16 following 37 touches, six marks, four tackles, seven inside 50s and a goal. Her vice-captain was Claremont’s Mackenzie Webb<\/a> who stood up in a massive victory over East Perth with 25 disposals, four marks, seven tackles and five inside 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside Henry, three-goal talents Taylah Edwards<\/a> and Summer Yarran<\/a> were both named in the forward line, while the in-form Summer Ajduk<\/a> impressed once more and earned a spot on the bench. For Claremont, Jacinta Valentini<\/a> and Savannah Muir-Thompson<\/a> also kicked a trio of majors and made it into the front six, as Matilda Husband<\/a> was prolific through the ruck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peel Thunder’s Chloe Wrigley<\/a> did her best in defeat for her team with 29 disposals, five marks and 10 tackles, while the ever-consistent Elly Sara<\/a> made it once more for the Royals. Perth co-captains Isabella Shannon<\/a> and Holly Britton<\/a> each had 30-plus touches and were named across the centreline to complete the sides with less than four representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sole losing side with four players was Subiaco, as the Lions went down by two points to West Perth. the versatile Charlotte Newland<\/a> was named in the back pocket with midfielder Paige Sheppard<\/a> starting on-ball. Fellow ex-Swan Lisa Steane<\/a>, and Subiaco ruck Matilda Husband<\/a> were the other Lions in the side for Round 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n West Perth full-back Liliana Grassenis<\/a> was enormous in the tight win, while usual suspects Emily Bennett<\/a> and wing Taylor Ferguson<\/a> both made it in for another week. Opposite wing Megan Norbury<\/a> slotted onto the bench too in a big week for those on the outside given Subiaco wing Hayley Corlett<\/a> was one of three emergencies with the Falcons’ Kayla Van Den Heever<\/a> and East Fremantle’s Noa McNaughton<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking of the Sharks, they had four players in the starting squad with Chloe Reilly<\/a> (three goals) and Anjelique Raison<\/a> (two) up forward, as reliable defender Madison Evans<\/a> was named in the back pocket.
