HALF a dozen Lions lead the WAFL Women’s Team of the Week for Round 17 with Subiaco two clear of the next most represented side. Fellow winners Claremont and Swan Districts each have four, while Peel Thunder, and Round 17 losers West Perth have three apiece. The remaining trio of losing sides combine for the last four players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subiaco’s Lisa Steane<\/a> was awarded the captaincy this week after an incredible performance against East Perth, racking up 26 disposals, five marks, six inside 50s, laying 10 tackles and kicking a goal. Her vice-captain for the hypothetical side is Peel Thunder’s Chloe Wrigley<\/a> who stepped up to help guide the seventh placed team to a win in its last game of the year. She had 25 disposals, six marks, four tackles and four inside 50s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A further five Lions are in the team, and the starting side no less. Defenders Beatrice Devlyn<\/a> and Olivia Crane<\/a> hold down important spots in the back six, while up front Olivia Wolmarans<\/a> and Aimee Schmidt<\/a> join Steane in a Subiaco-oriented forwardline. Midfielder Krstel Petrevski<\/a> is the other player in the side making it a full half dozen representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chasing the Lions in second spot is Claremont and the Tigers have versatile duo Mackenzie Webb<\/a> and Emma Henderson<\/a> named off half-back flanks. After two goals, Megan Green<\/a> has been named in a forward pocket, with Juliet Kelly<\/a> named on the bench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their opponents West Perth had three players which was the most of any losing side. Bottom-age duo Lexi Strachan<\/a> and Cara Dziegielewski<\/a> are in the team, with the former squeezed into the forward pocket given the strenght of the midfield, while hard-running wing Taylor Ferguson<\/a> was named in her preferred position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the other wing is Swan Districts’ Indiana West<\/a> who is beside in-form midfielder Jaime Henry<\/a>. The latter’s partner-in-crime returned to the fold over the weekend and made the team with Carys D’Addario<\/a> named on the bench. Kayley King<\/a>‘s two goals from 23 touches saw her slot into half-forward. Defeating the Demons, Perth’s sole representative was a first-time Team of the Week representative in Milla Spalding<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peel Thunder had further representatives with Wrigley both in defence and on the bench as experienced duo Ebony Dowson<\/a> and Ebony Bilcich<\/a> slotted into the side. They knocked off South Fremantle who managed two players in the penultimate Team of the Week, being skipper Hunter Cronin<\/a> and talented midfielder Tahleah Mulder<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n East Perth ruck Brooke Edwards<\/a> was her side’s sole representative and rounds out the named squad.
