MELBOURNE Girls Grammar will be gunning for a third straight title in the Herald Sun Shield Division 1 Senior Girls Grand Final when it faces the side it beat last year in Caulfield Grammar. Both teams won through to the decider after comfortable wins in the semi-finals yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caulfield Grammar put Sacred Heart College to the sword down at Skinner Reserve, as potential number one pick in next year’s AFLW Draft, Bailee Martin<\/a>, booted four goals in a 14.6 (90) to 3.1 (19) triumph. It put the team in-line for a chance to seek revenge on the back-to-back premiers, after Melbourne Girls Grammar had a tougher encounter, but still secured their spot in the big dance with a 25-point win over SEDA College at Trevor Barker Oval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin spearheaded Caulfield Grammar’s attack, kicking her first major four minutes into the match and had three by half-time. Finishing with four on the day, the Oakleigh Chargers star was not alone with her Coates Talent League Girls teammates Eliza Klein<\/a> and Lucy Murphy<\/a>, and former Dragon Georgia Macris<\/a> all booting two goals in the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Geelong-based Sacred Heart College had a stack of Falcons within the ranks, as Grace Carroll<\/a> – who booted two goals last weekend at Coates Talent League Girls level – kicked on her her side’s three goals. The team was captained by Falcons pair Ally Lappin<\/a> and Tara Trethowan<\/a>, while future star Evie Albones<\/a> is a name to remember over the next couple of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the other semi-final, Melbourne Girls Grammar – now minus Carlton draftee and graduate Sophie McKay<\/strong> – overcame a third term comeback from SEDA College to kick the only two goals of the last quarter to win, 7.9 (51) to 4.2 (26). Chloe Williams<\/a> – who was named best on ground in last year’s decider as a 16-year-old – booted two goals, as did Agnes Calma-Long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A well-balanced side featuring a number of Dragons, Macy Watkins<\/a> looms as Melbourne’s standout through the middle having come off a successful national carnival with Vic Metro, while Grace Perrett<\/a> and skipper Edie McLachlan<\/a> – daughter of former AFL CEO Gil<\/em><\/strong> – are other names to watch in the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For SEDA College, Ally Pilakis <\/strong>was the sole multiple goalkicker with two majors, with Eastern Ranges’ Lara Williams<\/a> – who made last year’s Intermediate Girls Division 1 Grand Final with Rowville Secondary College – the standout name on the list. Zahra Kelly<\/a> (Bendigo Pioneers) and Cleo Phillips<\/a> (Sandringham Dragons) are among the other Talent League listed girls on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile in the Intermediate Girls Division 1 Semi-Finals, Rowville Secondary College secured its spot in the final on Tuesday week, when it clashes with Sacred Heart College. The two sides met last year in the semi-final stage where Rowville easily accounted for the Geelong-based team by 55 points, before going on to knock off Carey Grammar by 33 in the decider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rowville’s dominance looks set to continue after a demolition job on Ballarat Grammar. The eastern suburb-based side slammed home eight goals in the first half and 10 in the second half to storm to a 117-point win, 18.15 (123) to 1.0 (6). The win was highlighted by six multiple goalkickers including double bottom-age Vic Country star and Under 16s All-Australian Ella Bologa<\/a> (four majors).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vic Metro Under 16s representative Tillie Baldwin<\/a> booted three majors, while the team also features Vic Country and Dandenong Stingrays gun Lily Brittain<\/a> and equally impressive Eastern Ranges-tied Kyra Simmons<\/a> who has already stepped up at Under 18s level for the Coates Talent League Girls competition. Grace Ayars<\/strong> kicked her side’s sole major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No doubt the grand final will be a tough challenge for Rowville’s opponents in Sacred Heart who knocked off Caulfield Grammar with a dominant last three quarters. Leading by four points at the first break, the country region team booted 12 goals to five after that to win, 15.7 (97) to 8.6 (54).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matilda King <\/strong>(four goals) lead the way, with Winter Davies<\/strong> and skipper Sienna Schmidt <\/strong>both booting three in the win. While not quite having the same state representation as Rowville, Sacred Heart has a well-balanced side that will look to cause an upset in the decider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
