FOUR teams with no turning back for the losers take part in the first week of the QAFL Women’s finals series. In an extended four-week post-season due to the additional two clubs added to the top flight Queensland league, Bond University and Aspley face off, as well as Coorparoo and Wilston Grange for the right to secure a place in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BOND UNIVERSITY (3rd) vs. ASPLEY (6th) Reigning grand finalists Bond University will go in as strong favourites against an Aspley side the Bull Sharks have beaten on both occasions they have faced off this year. In the opening contest between the sides at Graham Road, Bond University won by 16 points, before a more comprehensive 35-point triumph less than a month ago in Round 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bond University has a number of AFLW Draft hopefuls running around with Annabelle Foat<\/a> and Aleah Stringer<\/a> at the top of that list, while competition leading goalkicker Kendra Blattman<\/a> has had a superb debut season in the QAFLW. Aspley’s young talent is highlighted by athletic ruck Monique Corrigan<\/a>, while Lucia Liessi<\/a> and Kaitlyn Day<\/a> are quality ball-winners. Bond University by 20 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n COORPAROO (4th) vs. WILSTON GRANGE (5th) In a rare fixture quirk, it has been more than four months since these two sides faced off, which was way back in Round 2. On that day, the Kings won at Hickey Park by 13 points, 4.4 (28) to 2.3 (15), though not too much can be taken from that result given the amount of change over the season. Coorparoo showed its best is capable by defeating Southport in heavy rain, though the Kings do come in off the back of losses to the other two elimination finalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Double bottom-agers Edie Fraser<\/a> and Indiana Scheffler<\/a> will be a special duo in the coming years and already having an impact at QAFLW level, while Grace Roberts-White<\/a> has been ultra-consistent all day for the kings. One of the brightest Queensland prospects in next year’s draft, Mia Geere<\/a> lines up for the Gorillas, while over-ager Kaiya Hides<\/a> had a strong national carnival, and Tshinta Kendall<\/a> is always a danger for any opposition side. Coorparoo by nine points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n NEXT WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The winners of these respective elimination finals face off in a semi-final, as top two teams Southport and Morningside go head-to-head for a spot in the QAFLW Grand Final. The loser of the Sharks and Panthers will meet in the preliminary final the following week to secure the other spot in this year’s decider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
