EASTERN Ranges defender Rod Ali<\/a> was among the top performers in the 2025 AFL State Draft Combines last month. Ali recorded a remarkable 109cm running vertical jump – 19cm clear of his nearest State Combine rival – while also winning the standing vertical jump by seven centimetres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of his huge jumps, Ali finish second in the agility test (7.958 seconds) and fourth in the 20m sprint (2.896 seconds) in an all-round complete indoor physical testing performance. Ranges teammate and tall Marcus Krasnadamskis<\/a> was another eye-catcher with the 202cm athlete finishing in the top five for his standing and running vertical jumps, and second overall in the 20m sprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gippsland Power’s Mitchell Stevens<\/a> took out the honours in the 20m sprint with a blistering time of 2.885 seconds, pipping Krasnadamskis by two hundredths of a second. South Fremantle’s Ryda Luke<\/a> – who was fifth in both the standing vertical jump and agility test – finished third with 2.889 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the agility test, West Australian Dale Sutherland<\/a> raced home in a lightning 7.833 seconds, pipping Ali as the only other State Draft Combine invitee with a sub-eight second time. Claremont’s Charlie Banfield<\/a> was third as the West Coast father-son prospect finishing in 8.031 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Banfield’s best performance came in the 2km time trial however, just edging out fellow West Australian Toby Whan<\/a> by three seconds (6:08 to 6:11), with Sandringham Dragons’ Xavier Bamert<\/a> (6:10) splitting the pair on the podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
