COMPLETING our team-by-team review of the 2025 AFLW Draft, the Western Bulldogs also made just the minimum two selections, with a couple of draft bolters at their respective selections. One National Academy member who was gaining plenty of interest late had the trigger pulled in the first round, while a complete bolter thanks to her last few months saw an explosive Jet get her opportunity as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mizuki Brothwell<\/a> >> CLICK each player\u2019s names for full profiles & highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bulldogs followed the trend of picking players with nice athletic traits in one way or another, while also grabbing a pair of prospects with terrific defensive elements. Brothwell was tipped to go in the top 30 – and possibly first-round – so the Dogs took no chances with the selection when Pick 14 came around to add her to the team list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brothwell reads the play superbly and is an effective kick off half-back, having risen up the ranks since only starting football a few years ago. Alongside twin sister Nalu<\/strong>, the Brothwell’s have really elevated their standing within the draft crop. Now at Whitten Oval, Brothwell can provide that defensive cover and an aerial threat from half-back, having a good all-round game for a relative newcomer to the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n O’Connor Moreira was largely unheard of six months ago, but after an injury setback and ripping local form, she came into the Jets side and dominated off a wing. She racked up the ball with ease, and showed off her explosive speed and aerial ability. With elite defensive pressure to-boot, the late State Draft Combine invitee also displayed her aggressive nature once she crosses the white line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dominating at the Draft Combine was the final box ticked for O’Connor Moreira who is taken on her raw traits and rate of development over a short span of time. She will look to further round out her execution at the Dogs, but has some traits that are very hard to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n GRADE:<\/strong> B<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Western Bulldogs grabbed a couple of surprises at their respective picks, but they are very exciting players who have those AFLW qualities. The Dogs have a fairly well-rounded squad at the moment, so adding the two to bring in further defensive pressure – along with recruit Mikala Cann<\/strong> – shows a clear path that coach Tam Hyett<\/em><\/strong> is taking the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
