TASMANIA’S junior female footballing talent was put to the test recently as part of the Devils’ Preseason Testing event. While potential top pick next year Matilda Lange<\/a> – who starred as a double bottom-ager in the testing last year – was unavailable – there were still plenty of eye-catching results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bottom-age tall Luca Murgatroyd<\/a> and double bottom-age talent Lucy Stoneman<\/strong> were among the top performers on the day from the Apple Isle. Murgatroyd recorded a top 10 finish for her age in the running vertical jump, clearing the rest of the competition by seven centimetres with a 66cm effort. She also finished third in the 20m sprint (3.264 seconds) and second in the agility test (8.528 seconds) to produce an all-round athletic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her efforts resulted in an 85.9 physical performance rating (PPR) which marginally tipped out Stoneman (85.7), though the latter did not take part in the yo-yo. Stoneman did win the standing vertical jump with a score of 49cm, while squeezing into second for the 20m sprint (3.214 seconds) and fourth in the agility test (8.686 seconds) for an equally eye-catching event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Academy member Evie Ward<\/a> also came to impress, blitzing the 20m sprint with a sub-3.2-second 20m sprint, while recording a third on the yo-yo test and top five finishes in both the standing and running vertical jumps. Saskia Grodski<\/strong> was consistent across the board, with her third placed finish in the running vertical the highlight of her day. Other test winners were Kacey Morehead<\/strong> (Launceston) who took out the agility test in 8.481 seconds, and Prospect’s Annabelle Marshall <\/strong>who recorded a 16.05 level on the yoyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
