SOUTH Australian bottom-age star Maia Freemantle<\/a> rose to pole position in the physical performance rating (PPR) stakes over the summer with a remarkable 95.3 at her state’s preseason testing event. The Under-18 and Under-16 state programs were put to the test on Sunday at Nazareth College ahead of the new AAMI Talent League kicking off in the state from February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freemantle was an All-Australian at Under 16s level and has been a prominent piece in the Eagles’ squad, and to say she blitzed the testing was an understatement. Recording the highest PPR of the preseason to-date, Freemantle won the 20m sprint (3.186 seconds) and the yo-yo test (17.04 level) among top five finishes across the board. The Eagles bottom-ager also finished second in both the standing and running vertical jumps, and fourth in the agility test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Freemantle was the eye-catcher, the likes of West Adelaide pair Chelsea Newitt<\/a> and Sarah Deed<\/a>, and South Adelaide’s Hope Taylor<\/a> all performed strongly. Despite recovering from a hip issue, which kept Taylor out of the yo-yo test, she still managed top five finishes in both the humps, and an equal second – alongside Newitt – in the 20m sprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newitt also finished top three in the vertical jump, 20m sprint and agility test, while Deed cleared her Bloods teammate in the agility (8.298 seconds), but roles were reversed in the 20m sprint as the latter managed a fourth place in the 20m sprint. Deed was only bettered in the agility by Glenelg youngster Tori<\/strong> Evans<\/strong> who was brought into the program after impressing in the country. She won the agility with a time of 8.275 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following in the footsteps of her older sister Lily<\/strong>, Isabel Smart<\/a> was fantastic overall, particularly in the running vertical jump (65cm) which she won, as well as a top five finish in the standing vertical jump (50cm). Another sister-of in Alana Evans<\/strong> – to Port Adelaide’s Jasmine<\/strong> – took out the standing vertical jump with a leap of 52cm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Adelaide’s Caitlin Hardin<\/a> managed a 17.01 on the yo-yo test, the only other player aside from Freemantle to cross the 17 threshold, while Central District tall Miyu Endersby<\/a> recorded a 62cm running vertical jump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
