A HARD running winger out of Eastern Ranges, Bridie Neale<\/a> had a memorable bottom-age season where she played a key role on the outside to help the Ranges build towards a maiden girls’ flag. Neale anticipates a role change to greater versatility in 2026, but loves to run and will round out her game throughout her top-age season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spoke to Neale at the recent Talent League Girls Preseason Testing Day about her football journey, rise to the sub-elite junior level, and goals for the year ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Bridie, tell us a little bit about your footy journey?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “I got convinced to come down to my local footy training down at Heathmont by one of my friend’s dads which I wasn’t too keen for but I thought I’d have a crack, and then haven’t looked back since.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What’s it been like stepping up from local to Eastern?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “It’s been pretty good. It’s a bit step up to Eastern as everyone would say, but it’s great to come here with likeminded people that all have the same common interests so it’s really good.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Are you looking to play wing again or another role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “I do enjoy it on the wing, but I’ve been moved around a bit in this preseason and with the new coach coming in, I’m not really sure where I’m going to be this season. I’m pretty happy anywhere but probably the wing would be my main role.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What strengths do you see in your game?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “I’d say my run and carry and my decision making under pressure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What are you looking to improve on at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “Definitely my contested aerial. It’s probably one of my weaknesses so I’ve been working pretty hard on that so hopefully it’s improved a bit for this season.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Which person has had the most influence on your career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “My dad. He’s been the main person giving me tips and helping me out and pushing me to keep doing better.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Which AFLW club do you support?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “Essendon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Is there a player you look up to or model your game on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BN:<\/strong> “From Essendon AFLW, maybe Mia Busch<\/strong>. How hard she goes at the ball and she’s so hard on her defence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What goals do you set for yourself this year?<\/strong>
BN:<\/strong> “To play some consistent good footy that I’m happy with and enjoying, and to win another premiership in the end.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
