FOLLOWING a commanding victory over South Fremantle, Swan Districts recorded a league-high five representatives in our WAFL Women’s Team of the Week. The Swans had one more than fellow Round 2 victors East Fremantle and Claremont, while Subiaco and West Perth had three, Perth and South Fremantle managed two, and Peel Thunder had the sole representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After an even bigger performance than her Round 1 effort to earn Team of the Week captaincy, it was hard to deny Swan Districts ball-winner Jaime Henry<\/a> with the hypothetical leadership role again. She racked up 38 disposals and 10 clearances in a dominant on-ball performance for the league leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Henry was joined in the team by fellow midfielder Jessica Cox<\/a>, as well as three-goal forwards Ashley Sharp<\/a> and Taylah Edwards<\/a>, and rock solid intercept defender Isabella Edgley<\/a> who was huge in the back half. By comparison, South Fremantle only had two representatives in Round 2, as recruits Mikayla Hyde<\/a> (half-back) and Ashleigh Gomes<\/a> (interchange) kept their places after impressive performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n East Fremantle’s scoreless loss in Round 1 saw the Sharks only record one player in the side, but a bounce back victory over Peel Thunder resulted in four representatives for Round 2. New recruit Mackenzie Webb<\/a> made all the difference down back, while Noa McNaughton<\/a> had an enormous 29-disposal and two-goal game. She was named on a wing given the sheer strength of the midfield this week, while Eve Wilson-Sieber<\/a> slammed home three goals up forward, and Zoe Keley<\/a> had a career-best game through the ruck. Peel Thunder defender Cassie Davidson<\/a> was her side’s only player in the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The game of the round saw 20 goals between and two points separate Claremont and West Perth with a combined seven players from the two sides making the Team of the Week. Though the midfield, Juliet Kelly<\/a> racked up 36 touches and looked good, while Megan Norbury<\/a> and Jess Freame<\/a> were strong for their respective sides. Without a doubt the experience of Matilda Husband<\/a> in the ruck was crucial to the Tigers’ victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Up respective ends, Claremont skipper Rachel Ortlepp<\/a> and West Perth recruit Zoe Huggett<\/a> traded goals, finishing with four apiece to both fill out the front half of the ground, while Irish talent Ellee McEvoy<\/a> slotted into half-forward having kicked a couple and looked impressive through the middle and when within range of the big sticks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also having three players in the Round 2 team, Subiaco pair Paige Sheppard<\/a> and Lisa Steane<\/a> both stuffed the stats sheet once again, while Annabel Johnson<\/a> caught the eye off half-back.
