The diminutive prospect started on-ball but naturally got involved in plenty of link-up play, showcasing quick and clean hands as the Pioneers moved into attack. His agility was useful when stepping through traffic and he held marks well overhead en route to a game-high 32 disposals. Austin’s clever running was a feature throughout the day as he showed out with extended midfield minutes.

#4 Cruz O’Sullivan
Wing/Midfielder | 183cm | 04/12/2008

Stats: 24 disposals, 5 tackles, 9 inside 50s

O’Sullivan was a constant driving force for the Pioneers, situated mostly out on the wing. O’Sullivan showed his competitiveness with strong tackles and that kind of play earned him a run on-ball, where he continued to find ways to escape the clutches of opponents before looking forward. His core strength and evasiveness were impressive.

#7 Max Thompson
Midfielder/Forward | 174cm | 06/03/2009

Stats: 30 disposals, 11 marks, 6 inside 50s, 1 goal

No stranger to racking up possessions, Thompson did so alongside Austin and was a genuine match-winning influence. His reaching overhead mark and set shot goal sealed the result late on, having been prominent during a late move inside forward 50. Otherwise, the bottom-ager was his playmaking self through midfield and leant on his running power to dictate play. Thompson consistently found space and was an option on the overlap, sometimes blazing away with long kicks but operating at speed nonetheless. His penetrative boot cut through the wind as nearly every Bendigo attack seemed to pass through his hands during another prolific outing.

#14 Riley Travaglia
Forward/Wing | 181cm | 21/03/2009

Stats: 19 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 1 goal

Travaglia’s one-touch handling has been a highlight of his season to date, and that continued to be the case on Sunday. The bottom-age utility started forward where he worked up the ground and exhibited strong overhead marking ability in one-on-one contests. He also produced a slick steal for his lone goal in the second quarter. Travaglia’s connective quality saw him moved up to the wing and he brought the heat with some terrific tackle efforts, as well as a clutch loose ball win and kick inside 50 to assist Thompson’s sealer. He hardly puts a foot wrong.

#35 Jack Bell
Tall Forward/Defender | 188cm | 15/04/2008

Stats: 12 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal

One of Bendigo’s recent Vic Country trialists, Bell started up forward before reverting to his usual role down back. Both of Phillips’ goals were of the highest calibre; first bombing home from outside 50 on the run, and then slotting one from the boundary in term four. He was difficult to tie down in one-on-one contests, finding a way to either bring the ball to ground or draw a free kick. He finished well on the snap and levelled the scores with a set shot, albeit to no avail in the loss. As a midfielder, Stuart stood out with his power step and ability to slip out of tackles, using his size to advantage.
