Her ground coverage was evident at the three-minute mark with another strong tackle at half-forward.

She was tackled by two opponents midway through the quarter, but covered the ground well to stay in the contest, before taking a sharp mark in front of her opponent at half-forward and sending it forward. The chain of play led directly to Zoe Petrides swooping to slot a goal – one of eight inside 50s Scott would register for the afternoon.

She pressed down the line at the 14th minute, dragging a handball receive on the 50-metre arc and dribbling a kick inside 50 before rotating back on-ball in the final stages. A controlled, composed first term that showcased her reading of the game and her willingness to apply pressure without the ball.

SECOND QUARTER

Back on-ball from the opening bounce against Ava Bilyk, Scott’s second quarter was her most influential. She was quick hands and smart decision making all at once, gathering on the wing and sidestepping to receive before dishing back off cleanly. She thumped a set piece from just outside 50 at the 3.5-minute mark and continued to find the ball in tight areas.

Her two goal assists in the quarter told the story of her football IQ. At the six and a half minute mark, an errant Geelong handball landed straight in her lap and she immediately found Kya Willis-Rawlings, who linked with Sienna Croad for the major.

In the 10th minute, Scott took a composed mark at half-forward, which was followed by a well-weighted kick inside 50 to Lily Quigley, who linked up Ameleia Murray for another Lions goal. She finished the half with 18 disposals, a mark of how cleanly she was moving the ball and how often the Lions were running through her.

THIRD QUARTER

A slightly quieter statistical quarter, but Scott’s influence didn’t diminish. She started again on-ball against Ksenia Dear and was immediately involved – clean pickup, quick handball to a teammate before following up to lay a good tackle a moment later. In the third minute, she marked inside defensive 50 and delivered a quick pass to a running teammate, which initiated an end-to-end Lions goal.

What stood out in the third quarter was the quality of her involvement rather than the volume. Even when winning the ball in space, Scott was still running in hard to contests — an important distinction for a midfielder who might otherwise be tempted to drift to the uncontested ball in a blowout.

Her reward came at the 14 and a half minute mark when she drifted forward, read the flight of the ball and took an uncontested mark at the top of the goalsquare, composing herself for an easy set shot and converting. She followed up with a strong tackle and clean gather off the deck before the quarter closed out.

FOURTH QUARTER

Starting on-ball again against Ava Bilyk, Scott was still putting her hand up with the game long decided. Quick, clean hands at half-forward in the first minute, smart positioning to act as a shepherd for Lily Quigley as she burst clear, and another tidy handball at the centre bounce at the 10.5-minute mark kept her numbers ticking.

She found Ameleia Murray again at the 17 and a half minute mark with a short kick from half-forward, and brought up her 10th mark right on the siren at defensive 50, placing a lovely kick to the wing to close out the game. She never eased off, a minor detail that reveals a major quality.

SUMMARY

Scott delivered the kind of best-on-ground performance that will have AFLW recruiters paying close attention. The Lions Academy co-captain did everything asked of her as a midfielder and then some – generating inside 50s, creating goals for teammates, adding one of her own, and applying the defensive pressure her team needed throughout.

At 78.6% kicking efficiency, she’s using the ball cleanly and decisively at both ends, and her endurance across all four quarters without fading is a telling marker of where she’s at physically. The contested numbers are the one area where she’ll be challenged to lift as competition stiffens, but in a performance where she racked up 31 disposals, 10 marks and seven tackles in a dominant team showing, Stella Scott has put herself firmly on the map.

Mentions

Stella Scott

STEPPING up in the absence of key teammates, Lions Academy ball-winner Stella Scott feasted on Anzac Day at Avalon Airport Oval, turning in a best-on-ground performance as co-captain in a 101-point demolition of the Geelong Falcons. >> AFLW DRAFT Q&A: Stella Scott Club: Brisbane Lions AcademyDOB: 19/12/2008Height: 165cm STRENGTHS: + Endurance and work rate + […]

[14920,18239,22202,8,22198,2177,3132,20258,137
22593
post-213103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-aflw-draft","category-aflw-draft-analysis","category-brisbane-lions-academy-girls","category-news","category-northern-academies-coates-talent-league-girls","category-player-focus","category-queensland","category-talent-league-girls","category-womens","tag-stella-scott
["GET
