The Redlegs defeated Central District by 22 points in a commanding grand final performance at X Convenience Oval on Sunday morning to etch the Redlegs player names into history as the first team to win the competition. That they did it from third on the ladder – defeating both top-two finishers, South Adelaide in the semi-final and the Bulldogs in the decider – only adds to the achievement.

It was Norwood who struck first, Della McCracken snapping truly within four minutes to set the tone. Annelise Lovell responded for Central District moments later to level the scores, but the Bulldogs’ hold on the contest was brief.

From that point, Norwood kicked six consecutive goals —-stretching across the remainder of the first quarter, all of the second and into the first half of the third – to open up a 35-point lead midway through the third term. Sophie Bevis kicked one late in the third to offer Central District a hint of hope at 29 points down, but a last quarter Tara Lord major proved only a consolation. The Redlegs didn’t yield another score buts still ran out comfortable winners, 7.0 (42) to 3.2 (20).

The contest was framed in the statistics before the first bounce. Norwood finished with 63 more disposals, 11 more inside 50s and a 33-32 hitout advantage, while Central District – for all its fight – could not convert their own areas of ascendancy. The Bulldogs won the clearances (29–25), tackles (71–69), marks (27–23) and rebound 50s (21–14). On the scoreboard is all that counts, and there, the Redlegs proved too good.

Ella Anderson was named best on ground and the award was emphatic. The Norwood midfielder finished with 25 disposals, three marks, five tackles, six clearances, six inside 50s and four rebound 50s — a complete midfield performance that touched every part of the game. She was the axis around which the Redlegs’ contested game turned.

Mia Wood drove alongside her through the engine room with 21 disposals and seven clearances, while Amelia Kelly was equally important with 21 disposals, three clearances, three inside 50s and a goal. Emmerson Lihou did the contested work that doesn’t show in the score – 10 tackles and three clearances from 14 disposals – and Kirralee Johns held the ruck with 11 hitouts to anchor Norwood’s engine room advantage.

The Redlegs’ forward line was equally lethal. McCracken finished with two goals from 14 disposals and three inside 50s, Lillian Thomas snapped two majors from just eight disposals, and sisters Kaianne Colbung-Ware and Kailee Colbung-Ware both got on the board to further underline the spread of Norwood’s scoring threat. Taylah Pearson chipped in with a goal from eight disposals and three inside 50s to make it six individual goalkickers for the day — and a scoreline that read 7.0 tells its own story about how clinically the Redlegs converted when the ball arrived inside 50.

For Central District, Sienna Antony was the most compelling figure in blue. The Bulldogs’ best player across the entire season went down swinging – 29 disposals, four marks, nine tackles, seven clearances, three inside 50s and four rebound 50s – a performance full of the competitiveness and craft that has defined her 2026. She will have wanted more from the occasion but gave everything she had.

Indianna Nelson was equally significant through the middle – 22 hitouts and eight clearances from 18 disposals making her central to whatever momentum the Bulldogs managed to generate – while Amalia Musolino was a composed last line with six rebound 50s from 15 disposals. Izabella Nisbet – the midfielder who won South Australia’s Under-16 MVP award and an All-Australian berth this season — showed again why her trajectory is one of the most exciting in the state with four marks from 15 disposals in a grand final at 15 years of age.

History will record Norwood as the first-ever AAMI Talent League Under 18 Girls premiers, and the manner of the victory was fitting for a side that announced themselves as a force throughout finals. The Redlegs came into the series as the third ranked side, went to X Convenience Oval as underdogs against South Adelaide and won, then returned the following week against a Central District team that had been the competition’s dominant force all season and won again. Two finals, two victories, both against teams that finished above them on the ladder. The Redlegs didn’t just win the inaugural flag – they earned it.

NORWOOD 2.0 | 4.0 | 7.0 | 7.0 (42)
CENTRAL DISTRICT 1.0 | 1.1 | 2.1 | 3.2 (20)

GOALS:
Norwood: D.
