Playing in the middle, the diminutive on-baller used his speed and evasiveness to duck out of congestion and spear the ball forward. The potential Tigers father-son easily found uncontested ball around the ground and usually chose aggressive options by foot.

#16 Tom Teague
Small Defender | 178cm | 14/03/2008

Stats: 32 disposals, 11 marks, 12 rebounds 50s, 1 goal

Teague was again so careful out of defence, rarely missing his intended target’s chest. He did the majority of his work by foot, with 28 kicks for the match. At times, he pushed up the ground to pinpoint forwards with short, sharp passes. His side could have done with his composure in multiple positions.

#33 Riley McLure
Defender | 181cm | 27/04/2009

Stats: 26 disposals, 4 marks, 7 rebound 50s

The rebounding defender utilised his penetrative right boot to switch the play centrally and affect scoring. His assured ball use and thoughtful decision-making stood out when Calder came storming back after quarter time. And on occasion, he exhibited impressive leg speed in pursuit of nearby opponents.

#43 Daniel May
Defender | 188cm | 06/11/2010

Stats: 15 disposals, 8 marks, 3 tackles

In just his second outing for the Falcons, the youngest player on the ground spent the afternoon in defence and looked rock solid. May genuinely impacted Calder’s ability to score through aggressive intercepting and intermittent acts of desperation. The 15-year-old often led his opponent to the ball, and when in possession, he usually executed disposal effectively.

CALDER CANNONS:

#2 Sam Harris (North Melbourne F/S)
Midfielder | 179cm | 17/01/2008

Stats: 21 disposals, 6 tackles, 4 clearances, 3 goals

The confrontational midfielder again showed off his typically furious attack on the ball. Harris brushed aside tacklers and occasionally made something out of nothing. He spent time forward, but his scores came from stoppages. All of Harris’ goals were a result of ferocity in contests. On three different occasions inside 50, the tenacious on-baller was able to rip the ball free from a scrimmage, throw it on the boot and watch it tumble through.

#3 Nathaniel Jenkins
Key Forward | 196cm | 18/08/2009

Stats: 10 disposals, 5 marks, 4 goals

Along with his key forward counterpart Ben Taylor, Jenkins helped the Cannons assert themselves on the game after a particularly slow start. Throughout the match, the mobile and unselfish goalkicker hit the ball hard on the lead and claimed marks with sure hands. The 16-year-old knew to take the ball at its highest point, and when leaping, no one could out-reach him. He also applied necessary bodily pressure and proved to be an unforgiving tackler.

#4 Tevita Rodan (Essendon NGA & Port F/S)
Forward/Midfielder | 180cm | 18/02/2009

Stats: 27 disposals, 8 clearances, 9 inside 50s

Rodan played entirely on the ball and used his lightning hands out of stoppages to find teammates. He was usually the first midfielder to escape congestion, and he ended up leaving the game for inside 50s. The bottom-ager was potent when delivering to forwards in space with his neat distribution.

#10 Isa Merhi
Midfielder | 177cm | 14/05/2009

Stats: 29 disposals, 5 marks, 5 inside 50s

Another member of Calder’s brigade of fleet-footed mids, Merhi provided energy and zip around the ball and aided in resuscitating the contest after an unresponsive opening. The bottom-ager created run via overlapping possession chains and laced-out teammates up the ground on his accurate left foot. He even took a nice overhead contested mark, showing that he can still be effective when the ball is in the air.

#19 Charlie Robbins
Midfielder | 181cm | 08/02/2008

Stats: 27 disposals, 7 marks, 7 inside 50s, 2 goals

The reliable rover racked up plenty of disposal at the coal face and around the ground. Robbins was Calder’s most consistent performer on the day. He continues to demonstrate his decent power for his relatively small size. He also boasts a quick hand-to-foot, which helped him out as the opposition were breathing down his neck.
