The Round 10 clash was defined by Murray’s defensive solidity, winning the tackle count 57-30 and maintaining possession with an emphasis on kicks. What’s more, the Bushies made better of their one fewer scoring shot. He owed his team after a free kick and 50m penalty almost cost a goal on the half time siren, and delivered with a big lift in term three. Never really struggling to get his hands on the ball, Harris refused to be tackled easily and looked to burst out of congestion with sharp steps. The Kangaroos father-son prospect did most of his best work by hand, and while there were opportunities to do damage heading inside 50, he wasn’t quite as pinpoint by foot.

#4 Tevita Rodan
Midfielder/Forward | 180cm | 18/02/2009

Stats: 16 disposals, 5 marks, 5 inside 50s

Essendon NGA & Port Adelaide F/S

Once again switching between the midfield and forwardline, Rodan was a constant link in Calder’s transitional chains. Compact and powerful, Rodan was able to absorb pressure to more effectively release teammates, although couldn’t steer his couple of shots at goal on target. In this match, he looked most effective as a connective high forward.

#9 Moustafa Darwish
Midfielder/Forward | 180cm | 07/01/2009

Stats: 23 disposals, 6 marks, 6 inside 50s, 1 goal

Essendon NGA

Often proving himself to be one of the most skilful players afield, Darwish excelled in the attacking phase. He spread hard off the contest to get forward of the ball, finding pockets of space and delivering the ball exquisitely inside 50. The bottom-ager looked to move the ball forward at all costs, even with his handballs under pressure, which led to several scoring chances. Darwish nabbed a goal of his own in term three, swooping on an errant Murray kick to intercept and convert. His hands were incredibly clean in every phase of play, also dropping his weight well to lay tackles.

#11 Jamieson Fleming
Wing | 185cm | 17/06/2008

Stats: 24 disposals, 6 marks, 5 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s

Fleming played a game that would have pleased his coaches, performing an important role on the wing. His defensive work rate was outstanding, dropping deep into the back 50 and offering an outlet for teammates to hit on the switch or rebound. While showing few frills, Fleming was reliably neat with his fundamental skills and consistently found space to help his side maintain possession.

#14 Nash McMahon
Defender | 183cm | 23/03/2008

Stats: 23 disposals, 3 marks, 5 rebound 50s

In combination with Tudor, McMahon was Calder’s most productive rebounder from defence. He often looked to double up on his possessions, delivering short and streaming past his teammates to get the ball back. The top-ager enjoyed carrying the ball and was able to playmake that way, utilising pokey left-foot kicks or linking up by hand. McMahon also showed he could win his own ball by chiming in with a couple of important intercept marks and scrapping when required.

#18 Charlie Tudor
Defender | 178cm | 29/05/2009

Stats: 27 disposals, 2 marks, 2 rebound 50s

Tudor was full of running on Sunday, putting speed on the ball with his relentless rebounding. He sparked Calder’s transitional play from deep in defence and was capable of joining in high up the ground, showing aggressive attacking instincts. Tudor lurked on the outside to receive and go upon each change of possession, making effective overlap runs to set his side on the front foot. Given he often operated at full tilt, some of his disposal wavered but he was dangerous nonetheless.

MURRAY BUSHRANGERS:

#7 Lincoln Brand
Midfielder | 188cm | 19/05/2009

Stats: 28 disposals, 10 marks, 6 inside 50s, 1 goal

Brand continues to go from strength-to-strength after an interrupted start to the season. His first act was a ripper, showing unbelievable courage to run back with the flight and take a gutsy intercept mark in defensive 50. That grab set the tone for his day, proving just as tough in the tackle and using his strong frame to withstand opposition pressure. While prepared to get in and under, Brand also worked hard to contribute on the outside, often dropping back to help Murray maintain possession heading out of defence. His foot skills were measured and he snared an important fourth quarter goal after intercepting an errant kick-in.

#11 Jackson Hewitt
Defender | 182cm | 19/03/2008

Stats: 29 disposals, 9 marks, 10 tackles

Productive as ever in defence, Hewitt led all comers throughout a well-rounded performance. He provided his usual run and distributive skills, looking to move the ball on quickly with sharp kicks. Whether moving side to side across defensive 50 or locking the ball in Murray’s front half, Hewitt seemed to be everywhere all at once. The industrious top-ager also showed his knack for intercepting and thrived on competitive acts, taking strong overhead marks and tackling hard. Compounding his impact, he simply made very few errors in what was a scrappy affair.

#13 Hunter Howells
Midfielder | 181cm | 11/07/2008

Stats: 12 disposals, 4 marks, 3 clearances, 4 inside 50s

A player with power and punchy foot skills, Howells helped his side maintain scoreboard pressure in the final term. He produced two terrific bursts out of the centre to drive his legs and kick deep inside 50, directly assisting a pair of goals. From there, Webster showed reliable foot skills and was even stylish at times, pulling off some sweet bullet passes. He was one of the few players to take kick-ins and provided constant support for teammates, getting into all the right spots across the defensive half.

#26 Eamon Hyde
Defender | 189cm | 21/02/2010

Stats: 20 disposals, 10 marks, 7 rebound 50s

Hyde’s performance was impressive enough, let alone for a 16-year-old in just his third appearance. He seemed to build in confidence as the game wore on, turning his emphatic spoils into clean intercept marks. Hyde already possesses a solid frame and competed willingly in the air, showing presence beyond his years. He was also a calming influence in red time, imploring teammates to burn the clock to ensure the Bushrangers would maintain their lead at every break.

#27 Jethro Snelling
Forward | 184cm | 25/11/2007

Stats: 14 disposals, 6 marks, 4 inside 50s, 4 goals

Once a Giants Academy member, Snelling came in for his first game of the season. He started like a house on fire, showcasing his strong aerial ability as somewhat of an undersized key forward. Proving difficult to beat on the lead and sticking his marks overhead, Snelling thrived on quick and long entries. He also ventured up the ground to provide some connection, but did damage as a clinical set shot finisher. While sometimes prone to throwing the ball on his boot, he snapped his opening goal that way and was not afraid to absorb physical contact.

Mentions

Sam Harris

Tevita Rodan

Moustafa Darwish

Jamieson Fleming

Nash McMahon

Charlie Tudor

Lincoln Brand

Jackson Hewitt

Hunter Howells

Cooper Webster

Eamon Hyde

Jethro Snelling

Calder Cannons vs Murray Bushrangers

MURRAY Bushrangers broke through for their first win of the 2026 Talent League season, holding firm to beat Calder by 14 points in Craigieburn on Sunday.
