In the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division, the match of the round sees the two form teams of the competition, Manly Warringah and Sydney University, go head-to-head in a blockbuster clash. Meanwhile, the QAFLW features a massive top-of-the-table showdown between reigning premiers Southport and current ladder leaders Coorparoo.

AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division

ROUND 11 FIXTURE:

East Coast Eagles vs North Shore Bombers | Saturday June 27, 11:50am @ Bruce Purser Reserve
UNSW-ES Bulldogs vs Pennant Hills Demons | Saturday June 27, 12:20pm @ Henson Park
Manly Warringah Wolves vs Sydney University | Saturday June 27, 12:50pm @ Weldon Oval
St George Dragons vs UTS Bats | Saturday June 27, 3:20pm @ Kelso Park North

Bye: Parramatta Goannas

The clear match of the round takes place at Weldon Oval, where ladder leaders Manly Warringah Wolves host second-placed Sydney University. This is a huge clash between the two form teams of the competition. Every ball will be contested in what promises to be an athletic showcase, with tactics playing a massive role on the day. The Wolves are coming off a gutsy eight-point win over UNSW-ES to snatch top spot, driven by the brilliance of Ashleigh Carter and Andrea Roditis. Manly will have to keep working on linkages from inside to outside football, as they will not be able to simply rely on intercept marking across the half-back line to kickstart offensive momentum. They will need plans B, C, and D ready to go.

Sydney University, on the other hand, are jigsaw puzzling beautifully this year. Following their 54-point demolition of East Coast Eagles, where Amanda Farrugia racked up 33 disposals, the Students look ominous. Each player’s strengths and weaknesses are complementing the next player on the field, and their down-the-line linkages are really coming together. Crucially, they are not relying on heavy lifting from any single player. This will be a humdinger and the best contest and evenly matched arm wrestle the AFL Sydney Women’s has to offer right now. Students by a goal.

At Bruce Purser Reserve, the East Coast Eagles host the high-flying North Shore Bombers. Being at home will make a difference for the Eagles, but not enough to stem the tide of goals the Bombers will steadily put on throughout the match. The Eagles have not clicked their offence into gear this year, and the fleet-of-foot young Bombers, fresh off a 152-point demolition of Pennant Hills where Adrienne Keeffe booted 10 goals, won’t make it any easier for them. There should be quite a few periods of play between the arcs, though, as the Eagles have too many experienced defensive players for it to be a rout. Bombers by around 28 points.

Henson Park plays host to a David and Goliath battle as the third-placed UNSW-ES Bulldogs take on the winless Pennant Hills Demons. The Bulldogs will be eager to bounce back after losing top spot to Manly last week, despite a monstrous 32-disposal, 15-clearance effort from ruck Sera Kaukiono. For the completely developing Demons side, it will be another tough learning experience against a seasoned premiership contender. The Bulldogs to win easily.

The final match of the round sees the St George Dragons host the UTS Bats at Kelso Park North. UTS need a really good performance here to keep in touch with the top four, while the Dragons will be stinging from a heartbreaking three-point loss to Parramatta last weekend. Expect to see a lot of contested ball-ups around the ground, with runners trying to get releases on the outside.

The Bats have shown they have the edge in that area, which should be the differentiator on the day. The UTS forwardline will need to convert opportunities into points to make sure the Dragons don’t get right into the game on the scoreboard, otherwise anything could happen. But the difference will probably be just under a goal and a half a quarter, with too many Bats opportunities created. UTS by 27 points.

QAFL Women’s

ROUND 11 FIXTURE:

Southport vs Coorparoo | Saturday June 27, 3:00pm @ Fankhauser Reserve
Moreton Bay vs Aspley | Saturday June 27, 3:45pm @ Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex
Bond University vs Morningside | Saturday June 27, 4:45pm @ Bond University Oval
Maroochydore vs University of Queensland | Saturday June 27, 4:45pm @ Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex
Broadbeach vs Wilston Grange | Saturday June 27, 4:45pm @ Kombumerri Park

The standout clash of the Queensland competition arrives at Fankhauser Reserve, where second-placed Southport hosts ladder leaders Coorparoo in a genuine top-of-the-table blockbuster. Coorparoo enters the clash in scintillating form, having dismantled Moreton Bay by 103 points last week, with Chelsea Chesterfield booting five goals and Ayla Fetahagic dominating through the middle.

Southport, however, is equally dangerous, sitting second on the ladder with an enormous percentage of 411.11 per cent. The Sharks took care of Wilston Grange by 28 points last week, with Ella Maurer and Steph O’Brien leading the way. With both sides boasting 8-2 and 9-1 records respectively, this looms as a genuine finals preview and a battle for the minor premiership. Surely a clash that will go down to the wire.

At Bond University Oval, third-placed Bond University takes on fourth-placed Morningside in another massive top-four shootout. The Bull Sharks continued their strong form with a 30-point win over Aspley last week, driven by a 30-disposal masterclass from Shannon Nolan. Morningside, meanwhile, flexed their muscles with a 98-point thrashing of Maroochydore, led by Laura Roy and Ally Lappin. This clash will test the depth of both midfields and could go down to the wire. Another thrilling contest that should be a thriller to the final siren.

Moreton Bay will be desperate to bounce back from their heavy defeat when they host sixth-placed Aspley. The Lions have managed just one win for the season and face a tough task against a Hornets outfit that pushed Bond University last week with players such as Ella Smith. Jessica Davy remains a shining light for Moreton Bay, but Aspley will look to capitalise and boost their percentage. The Hornets should get back to business in this one.

Maroochydore hosts the University of Queensland in a battle of the bottom half of the ladder. Both sides suffered defeats last week, with UQ falling to Broadbeach and the Roos outclassed by Morningside. Luka Yoshida-Martin and Eva Sartor continue to battle hard for the Red Lionesses, and this presents a genuine opportunity for UQ to secure their fourth win of the season. University of Queensland to bounce back

Finally, Broadbeach welcomes Wilston Grange to Kombumerri Park. The Cats claimed a strong 19-point win over UQ last week, with Chelsea Lee starring, and will look to build momentum against the fifth-placed Gorillas. Wilston Grange fought hard against Southport but ultimately fell short, and will be eager to consolidate their spot in the top five with a crucial away victory given the firepower at its disposal including Zimmorlei Farquharson. The Gorillas to be too strong.

THE action heats up across the northern states this weekend as Round 11 arrives.
