A real all-round prospect with plenty of traits.

#3 Zoe Petrides (Lions Academy)
Forward/Midfielder | 165cm | 28/09/2008

Stats: 14 disposals, 8 tackles, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

While Petrides didn’t have her biggest game on the stats sheet or hit the scoreboard, what she offers is a great two-way ability. She was a star at the AFLW Under 16 Championships, and between her Lions Academy and now Queensland duties, it is evident she is well ahead of her age in terms of development. She backs herself with confidence, breaks lines and uses the ball well, but it is her defensive attributes that come with that – such as her run-down tackles – that show she can be a two-way outside runner.

#7 Ameleia Murray (Lions Academy)
Midfielder/Defender | 163cm | 13/09/2009

Stats: 20 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s, 1 behind

A vital inclusion to the team, Murray is one of the top prospects for next year, combining skill and toughness with a wide array of athletic advantages. She ran at 81 per cent disposal efficiency for the game, and was always looking for the handball receive to take grass and drive the ball down the ground. Though only slight in stature, Marsh is not afraid to lay some strong tackles.

#5 Ava Bilyk (Geelong Falcons)
Midfielder/Forward | 169cm | 07/07/2008

Stats: 16 disposals, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 behind

While not afforded the space she had in game one against the Allies and often forced into handballing rather than kicking which is usually her go-to weapon, Bilyk was still among the better Country players with ball in hand. She is always clean with the ball and as a first-possession winner, picks the right option for a teammate to extract it further afield. Most of her touches in the game came under immense heat, but she was still ultra effective. While Garlick is left-foot dominant and can run into trouble when corralled, if she has a split second to deliver, her long kick that pierces through an opposition defensive zone can really open the game up. She brings the non-negotiable heat, will put her body on the line and exftract the ball at all costs, squeezing into areas where very few will dare to enter. A contested beast, Perri has the strength and speed that indicates improvement to come, and when the kicking efficiency can match that, watch out. Very good at being first to the ball and if given any space will take the game on.

#20 Claudia Collins (Geelong Falcons)
Tall Forward | 176cm | 26/05/2009

Stats: 7 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goals

While the Geelong Falcons bottom-ager didn’t get a lot of looks, she did capitalise when she had her chances in the third term to make the game really interesting. Just as Queensland had built a 20-point lead and looked like running away easily, Collins booted back-to-back majors and in the blink of an eye it was back to eight points. She kicked her first from a crafty snap off her left, before taking a good mark and kicking her second less than three minutes later.

#33 Gabrielle Mehrmann (Dandenong Stingrays)
Key Defender | 180cm | 11/09/2008

Stats: 10 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 3 rebound 50s

After a long layoff and only the one Stingrays game back since then, Merhmann looked at home in defence where her bodywork and one-on-one ability was very good. She plants herself well in marking contests which usually leads to infringements as she is hard to move, with a strong aerial ability and then willingness to compete once the ball hits the deck. She is a defence-first player, but is comfortable with the ball in her hands, and has a long kick that can clear the danger.

#35 Sophie White (Dandenong Stingrays)
Ruck | 184cm | 18/03/2008

Stats: 10 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 17 hitouts, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50, 1 behind

After dominating the Allies, White had a worthy opposing ruck in Clinch, of whom both have similar leaps and really broke even in that contest. She has the mobility to impact around the ground and get involved, and though not a high accumulator, still finds a way to get involved such as her shot on goal late in the second term which unfortunately missed. Her one mark was a nice intercept grab at half-forward off the boot of her direct opponent which would have been a confidence-booster as well.

<div
